Re: I wonder who would be crazy enough to try this...
Looking around the page they showed it on a Vette so if they can do it on a Vette then they should be able to do it on a F-Body. Interesting technology, but probably too expensive to be practical. Interesting though...

pretty soon we'll be seeing kia's and hyundai's and mabe even some daewoo's with christmas lights for underglow coffee can mufflers and some fake-me-out hideway doors. couple of rubber bands and some paper clips should do the trick oh and dont forget the APC decals, no way it would even be possible without them. lol

thats pretty cool, almost looked fake at first. for a third gen i dont see this being plausable due to lack of ground clearance.

Its almost like reinventing the wheel, what the hell is wrong with car doors today? I dont see any reason to change something that works so well, but that statement is useless to car manufacturers.

how the hell could this work? they keep the floor and seats and stuff in the exact same position. my car has about 5-6 inches of ground clearence and the door is what 4-5 inchs thick? not counting the arm rest.

i was watching barrett jackson and there was this car (cant think of the name) where the door slid forward into the fender. it was a 60's to 70's car. very rare car.

okay congrats? i seen it about 2 years ago.. cars been around for over 50 years im sure a SH*T load of people have seen it. doesnt mean it should never be posted ever again! i put it on here because this discussion was about doors, and this is another door that wasnt used on every car in the world, its somewhat very rare. soooooo **** off.

its the new lambo door that all the idiots are gonna want and the really cheap idiots that dont have but a few pennies to their name, cant afford anything but a dusposable car (kia, hyundai and daewoo) their gonna find a way to crap together something out of things you find at a dollar store, just so it will fall off and take out your (non disposable) car. I saw it and it made me remember something.............. long story

That Lincoln Mark was written up in a car rag years ago and the car itself was on flea-bay last year. Joalto Inc. did the car up.
I don't know how that other company claims they did it!

well that's the first time i seen the car with the doors that go into the fender. so
for posting that. and i think it is a cool idea but not practical to have the doors slide under like that. still cool.

I want to see what the door looks like on the inside. The arm rest will be gone. but they would have to do other things also because of the thickness of our doors.

Re: I wonder who would be crazy enough to try this...
I want to hear the sound of the door closing after you fat *** friend sits down.
After the initial smashing of the door against street the scrape of it while closing would be musical.
Would it work , yes.
should it be done. no

Re: I wonder who would be crazy enough to try this...
This would never work on a third gen due to the fender/door shape geometry. The doors come to a point into the fender, think about it...
I had an idea like this but instead of scrolling down the doors popped outwards first and then slid upwards on heavy duty telescoping rails.
Problem I had with this idea is how to close the door once your inside (could use electric motors the then so heavy... On top of which to make this work right you would need a counterweight (More weight)

Just. What happens if the motors fail then how are you goign to get you're doors back up. eh? lol i mean its just impractical for the heaviness of these doors.

While cool, this really doesnt help third gens. Namely the floor and ground clearance
All of the cars shown (except the vette, I cant figure that one out) have a reasonably large amount of ground clearance and relatively high seats. This allows the floor pan to be moved up to make room for the door without sacrificing headroom (comfort)
On a thirdgen, the floor cannot go any lower as it is practically dragging as-is and the exhaust would have no place to go. It cant move up without raising the seats and removing the tight clearance already there. It cant be removed as it is structural
