Ive have found replacement battery trays and the bottom piece of the radiator support for cars. I know that having them welded in would probably be the best way. Just wondering if anybody out there has tried some of that norton speed grip adhesive or the 3m stuff to anything like that on them. If worked and held up. if it was faster and better or if i should just stick to welding them.

 

Don't know for certain but the H2SO4 (acid) from the battery that causes the rust would probably adversly effect any adheasive. I would weld, or if you are set on adheasive atleast use rivets to add to it incase the adheasive broke down.

 

dont glue them in, that just a horrible idea.

Welding is the only way to do this right

where did u find the lower rad support bar?

 

your best bet is what i did. Cut the old tray out and fill the void with sheet metal, weld it in place properly. i actually found a battery tray that will bolt in from a chevy car and used that. It looks better now than before

 

I agree with you guys.A battery is pretty heavy.I'd recommend welding it in also.

 

Which side is your battery tray (passenger or driver)? And how bad is the rust? Got a pic? If its just in the center of the tray, and your tray is on the passenger side, you could always cut some more away and pop in a 4th gen overflow/battery tray. You could ditch your stock, probably cruddy, overflow and solve your rusty tray problem in one shot.

Otherwise...cut cut cut cut until there is no more rust and weld in some new metal. Thats the only way in my opinion.

Haha not quite that much. You might be able to get a bite on some solid metal to bolt it in. Otherwise, you could get rid of all the rust, then add some metal to bolt the battery tray to. But from the looks of it, you are going to have to do a lot of removing and replacing to have good metal.

Best pic I have... There is one bolt that holds the tray down. Then the battery hold down holds the battery and also secures the tray. No pictures of the actual hole unfortunatly.
