Hi, not sure if this is in the right place

but i was wondering whats the widest tyres you can get in a 3rd gen, my car is an 84 firebird, Im not wanting to cut the metal work if i dont have to, so am interested in the maxiumum width with/without spacers for the fronts and for the backs

Ive read your signature, are you appear to be runnning 285's on the rear can i ask did you modify the body work to fit them???

the car the engine came with had 315s and proberly needed all of this width, i know i aint gonna get close to that (i dont think) but pressure can be altertered etc...

Stock 16" x 8" = 255/50 front, 295/50 rear. Zero mods, drop right on.

Had this on my old 92 & I know it is listed, many times over

What size wheels you wanting? The wheel size will also determine the size tire. For example, there is no street legal tire made, between 255 & 295, for a 16" wheel.

Try searching my user name & tire width stuff. This topic irks me the most of all, since I see it asked WAY tooooooo much.

as for what wheel size im looking at, im doing alot of reserach as the back end of my car will hopefully be featuring some bespoke features such as a diffuser and maybe some turning vanes, but it will be having all round upgrade from the engine to the wheels, so i want to know the limits i can work too and the tyres are the biggest single most important thing as their the only bit that connects the car to the road.

once i have enough knowledge i will set on a spefic wheel size at the moment i cannot comment as i havent a clue what is best for all round grip round corners, fast without excessive fictional drag and stable

Maybe you're having trouble with your search because you're spelling "tires" wrong..... just a thought

EDIT: according to wiki "tyres" is a UK spelling

or,he could just ask Neil!! LOL! Hes got the widest rear tires on a stock(appearing) 3rdgen!

 

Considering Neil's widened quarters, his info wouldn't be very useful though.
