NOW I have just purchased a 92 rs automatic in really nice condition
with another problem of a completely diffrent kind.
The guy I bought it from went on disability because of back injury.
Well instead of just selling the car,he turned it in for junk because he
was only allowed to have one tagged vehicle in his name.
NOW I am possibly gonna run into trouble trying to get a new title issued for the car.
Like I said,we all make mistakes. I bought the car thinking it was gonna be no problem.
NOW I can't say that for sure.
ANYONE got any ideas on this one?

This car is in above average condition. It has a crack in the nose cone is the only problem I have seen on this car.
It just really needs a good cleaning because it has been sitting under a tree for about 6 months.
It is more than likely gonna need a fuel pump too,but that is no biggie.
Other than that,this car is ready to go.
It has a set of z28 wheels on it,but I have a set of the original wheels
that go on the car.
I may just sell them unless i can find a set of 16 inch tires??HINT,HINT....

Right now though,I just need a clear title....

I think if you go to the local DMV, you can go through the process of issuing a new title. It's not free, and you need to know if the original title is clear/salvage, etc.

If you want to go from salvage-clean title, i dont know what the DMV rules say, as far as I know, once salvage, always salvage, unless you explain circumstances.

 

Turned in for junk HOW?

To a junkyard? Get a salvage/rebuilt title. Your states DMV can tell you how & what to do.

 

File for a lost title at the DMV in north carolina.
What to Do

Complete an Application for a Duplicate Title before a notary and take it to your local DMV office. Cost: $15.

If a lien is involved, the lienholder must complete the bottom half of the Application for a Duplicate Title in the presence of a notary.
Don't expect to be issued an immediate duplicate title, however. The DMV requires that all duplicate title applications "age" for 15 days.

Most states will let you go through a very thorough inspection process, and If the vehicle can pass, they can issue you a new or "custom" title, depending on the outcome. It's the same way people can get their home-built cars on the road.

 

If i understand him correctly the original title that was in his name was turned over for a junk title.
He could only have one vehicle registered as on the highway worthy.
I am thinking he either had to get rid of the cars,or show that they were not roadworthy to get his disability approved.
he has a back injury.

I guess what I am saying is the cars title was turned over for junk title.
He no longer has to pay county tax either I think he said.

Anyway,you think i can still apply for a title if it has been turned over for junk?
The car is by no means junk.It is as nice as my daily driver. He just didn't want anything to interfere with his disability.

Unfortunately, from my research (few minutes on google), once a salvage/junk title, that's all you'll ever have. I think the closest you can come is to get a rebuilt title. Sorry Man. But nonetheless, call your DMV and explain the situation, MAYBE you can change it, may help to bring the original owner (who you got it from) down with you to confirm. Just a thought. Hope it works out!

 

well you could apply for a state salvaged title since it was junked.i dont know how they do it there where your at.but here in missouri you take a bill of sell and take to dmv .and state i have just bought this car from junkyard as a project and i need to get a title or salvaged title whichever .well here they look up the vin and see if it was sold to junkyard .then all you do is apply for lost title.but thats all i know.hope it helps

 

Truthfully for $15 I would try the lost title first, cause it would look better. Just fill out the doc and turn it in at the DMV. If it works then great if not then at less you tried.
