Re: just got my first car
Enjoy your thirdgen, they may be a money pit at some times, but just think what I do "Hell the the parts are actually so cheap anyways" Compaired to late model cars, that a few hundred bucks can get a shitload of stuff done on a thirdgen, but maybe if lucky 1 single part on a new car.

Re: just got my first car
Congrats on the car, and
to TGO!
Why is the car not running? Anything we can help ya with there? Describe what's happening/not happening.
On the decoding - on the very first home page of TGO (www.thirdgen.org), there will me a bar on the left - read the Camaro Tech Data, the Third Gen Tech FAQ, and the RPO Decoder sections - tons of info there.
About the only thing your VIN is gonna tell you is what you already know - you have a 1990 Camaro RS with a 305 TBI motor and auto tranny. Your rear gears are going to be 2.73 peg leg (if still factory). TBI = Throttle Body Injection, as opposed to TPI = Tuned Port Injection ... TBI looks like a carb, but has 2 injectors shooting gas down the hole. You'll read mention of "swirl-port heads" - sorry, that's what ya got. The 305 is a great little motor, not tons of power, but very economical and very easy as all SBC's are.
The RPO codes should be listed on a data sheet, usually either under the lid of the center console, or under the lid of the little glove box in the driver side trunk - jot those down and check them out - that will tell you all the options your car had WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY - there's no telling what any previous owners have done since.
The
function on TGO works very well - sometimes too well - be specific on your searches. For example - if you have heating issues and you know somethings wrong with the controls inside the car, type "heater controls" rather than just heater and you'll get better results. This board has been here forever, and has accumulated literally tons and tons of info over many years, and unlike some other boards none of it is archived seperately (that I know of), so it all comes up readily available - every search yields many pages dating back many years. There's literally nothing about your car you can't find an answer for here on TGO with the right search, the right questions, and the patience to wait for the right person to answer!
Anyway, Ill stop babbling
Do let us know what's up with the car not running if you need help with a diagnosis, and well see what we can do!

Re: just got my first car
OK - so you have a ways to go then. And I used bad info from the 88 - so ignore that LOL. Well, let us know if we can help diagnose anything when you get to that point.

Re: just got my first car
Check the hatch motor assembly. When you initially close the hatch, it should catch and they be pulled down by the motor. Chances are, your motors shot...

Re: just got my first car
its my battery, were having snow storms here so i cant go out to charge it sadly...so for the moment she has a cover on her...also, what would cause my key to have problems fitting into my ignition and turning? its really hard to fit the key in the hole, i mean you really have to push, then to turn the ignition you really have to turn it for it to move...i dont know if this is the right board to post this
