One of the changes I would like to make to my camaro is to change the grille to the IROC Grille. The NOS and reproduced grilles I've seen have camaro spelled out in a white/ Grey color. However I've seen a few black/gold camaros running around on here with gold writing on this piece. Is this custom or do they exist? Either way I was planning on getting the red bow tie one and painting it gold, but would rather have the correct grille for the year and paint the camaro text gold also.

As a side freak question-

My car was a factory z28 v8, I swapped out the original 4 cylinder radiator for the v8 one, and other than a few inconsistency's I've noticed, shouldn't this car have come with the fog light type grille to begin with?

I always just assumed my car was a Friday built car, so it got a lot of leftover parts from the other lines....

 

They exist, OE. IROC's got the fog grill standard, but I'm unsure if that was an option for other cars or not in 85. I suspect you have the correct grill.

I think the grille was standard on iroc and came with fog lamps, then the grille itself was available for z-28, but without the fog lights.

My question is, Do I have to buy the reproduction model with the silver camaro lettering, then paint them gold. Or if there is a reproduction model printed with gold writing.

They came in gold or silver depending on the color combo of your car.I have a gold one on my 89 iroc vert which came with gold emblems and rims.I also pulled a gold one off of a junkyard iroc.silver is the more common color though

 

So other than getting lucky and finding a used one in gold, no one is reproducing them in gold anymore?

 

The only time that grill was used was with fog lights. The fog lights were optional on the Z28 from 1985-up. When a Iroc or Z28 was ordered without fog lights, it came with the normal louvered RS style grill.

 

Could you delete the fogs on an iroc?I don't think I've ever seen an iroc with a louvered grille as fog lites were standard.I know they were optional on the z28

 

Check with your dealership, which is where I purchased mine in silver, albeit several years ago.
