fixing cracked ground effects?

Hey guys, well the front ground effects (the super rare parts) on my 91 Trans Am 'vert have a bunch of cracks in them so I was wondering what would be the best way to fix em. I was thinking of gluing then throwing bondo on the cracks to smooth them out but I'm afraid that the bondo itself will crack since the plastic is more flexible. Here's a couple pics of what I'm deal with.

Re: fixing cracked ground effects?

i epoxied mine and then used fiberglass resin over it to smooth it out. the fiberglass doesnt crack when it bends in the wind. worked great for my camaro. till I met the back end of a truck.

Re: fixing cracked ground effects?

Most auto parts stores(Autozone/Advance/Pepboys/etc) have bumper repair epoxy in the body work section. Its a 2-part epoxy that comes in a syringe you mix up and put on the bumper/ground effects like bondo to patch cracks and holes.

Does that need anything on top of it (other than paint) or will it sand smooth?

Im not sure what your asking but that fillers waterproof and doesn't suck or hold in moisture so you dont have to prim and top coat right away

Re: fixing cracked ground effects?

I tried both bondo/glass and epoxy resin. Both WILL....I repeat...WILL sheer off with an impact with a high curb, etc. I then purchased a product called duramix from 3M(check TCP global or 3M itself). It's a plastic weld that is a bit on the pricey side but the repair is stronger than the spoiler itself. You should be able to youtube it for a demo. The ground effects and front/rear bumpers are plastic....not glass. good luck

The ground effects are glass, the front and rear bumpers are urethane based

can't be.....I sanded both parts....they're the same material on my 91. I searched and searched and searched. I repaired the spoiler with duramix and then purposedly hit the same curb that sheered off my epoxy repair. The duramix held up

DO NOT use this it will crack, its made for filling purposes not structural.... is the part plastic or fiberglas?
if its urethane (plastic) use this: http://www.emisupply.com/catalog/nor...term=NOR-04617

and this to reinforce it from the back http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053 works the same as the one u get at autobody store but cheaper

i'll xplain the process if you go with this, and you don't have to coat it b/c its urethane

the front spoiler is urethane based. i read the title of the thread and looked at the pics and jumped into posting before knowing it was the front spoiler he was talking about. the fiberglass filler will work but like menchend above hit a curb it will crack
