Hood Blister Inserts

Anyone know where I can get new inserts or a reproduciton insert for the hood blisters. These are the black, honeycomb looking inserts that are glued to the blisters. One of mine blew out last year while going around Texas Motor Speedway because the body shop didn't use the correct adhesive when they put them back in after the paint job.

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

I have never seen those for sale. I bet you will have to buy a new blister in order to get the insert.

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

I have a brand new set that still has the factory double-sided adhesive tape on them, but I'm probably going to save those for when I repaint the car (doing a color change). Body shops usually damage those when taking them off and it's hard to paint around them without puddling in the corners if they paint the blisters and just mask off the inserts...

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

You got any pictures of them? I've got an IROC hood that I want to modify and make functional, but I have no louvers or blisters... I'd love a set of blisters and I'd be taking that screen out anyway.

How much money would you want for them? If you end up having to buy new ones anyway... Im definitely interested in those.

Either way, they're not nearly as expensive to replace as louvers (I guess they dont disintegrate as easily) generally, so even if you have to buy new ones it won't be a massive price gouge like it would be if you had some louvers that flew apart. Unfortunately, though, I just checked ebay and there are a lot of people asking way too much money for em now. Just wait em out, you'll find a pair for $50-$80 before you know it.

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

I have blisters on my Z28 and I will be doing something with the screen inserts when I paint the car. Looking at them, you could easily duplicate them with a sheet of aluminum or stainless, trace an outline, drill whatever hole pattern you like and put them on with 3M trim adhesive tape. Can't be that hard...

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

They're listed new on year one's web catalog, but I just don't want to pay. Hawks Third Gen has them for sale used, I sent them a request and they got back with me, but again, I just don't want to pay what they are asking.

I guess I'll try to make some for my 88 (they are completely missing) before I shell out hundreds of dollars.

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

Just pop the otherside out, cut some holes in your hood, put some expanded aluminum over the holes, and you have yourself functional hood vents!

Just came across these via craigslist, not sure if this is what you're looking for but I figured I'd give it a whirl

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

If those were near my house I think I'd buy them.

Thanks for the link; they at least had good pictures that I can keep for the future!

This thread is for the 91-92 hood blister inserts. While many retailers will sell the entire blister both new and used, if you paint these correctly the inserts need to be removed. The only anwser is someone who sells just the screen insert itself. None of the above posted links sell the inserts.

Re: Hood Blister Inserts

Ah, sorry about that. I'm more of a Firebird guy and my 88 IROC is the first Camaro that I've kept longer than 30 days, hahahah.

The last 91 salvage car that I saw had the same hood louvers that my car was supposed to have, so I didn't know that they were different.

What is the breakdown then? 85-90 is the same? 91-92 is the same? What about the 82-84 cars? On some of them didn't the louvers work with the Crossfire Injection system? I really don't know much about those, but now I'm really curious!

82-84 Z28 hoods didnt have louvers. They did, however, have plastic hoods which were lightweight. Many of the later ones had delamination issues which caused them to be replaced under warranty with steel ones. These are pretty neat hoods. These had little flaps that opened to take in cool air for the crossfire injection. Theyre a pain in the rear to retrofit onto other setups, and they're fairly unique. I have an 82 Z hood on my car now because it gives a nice factory look and saves weight.

The 85-92 Z28 hoods are the same, but 85-90 got louvers and 91-92 got blisters.

This is my junk IROC hood with louvers removed. it's the same as yours.

All base hoods were the same from 82-92.
