Por 15: paint bubbles

About a month ago I had everything gutted from inside the car, and I stripped the rust off the floor pans, cleaned it, and painted it with POR - 15. Well there are a few places in the low spots of the floor pans where the paint has bubbled. At first I thought, Oh well, the hell with it. But now its kinda got me worried. I suspect that the paint bubbled due to a small amount of water that remained after I rinsed off the Metal Ready(I blew it out really good with compressed air).
Well today I pulled back a little bit of dynamat and dug into a little bubble with a razor blade. Couldn't see and moisture, and it looks like a thin layer of the paint has adhered to the metal, so no rust or anything. It's going to be a pain to peel back some of the dynamat, sand and repaint the areas and it has only bubbled in a few small areas, but definitely want to do it if it means that I am going to have rust holes in 6 months. Tell me what you guys think, cause i am ready to put the whole interior back in.

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

hard to tell without pics,
question, why do people rinse stuff with water when you guys are trying to prevent rust on metal, i know some if the product directions tell u to do this but common sense metal+water+oxygen=OXYDATION...

always use a solvent like thiner to clean up residue, even if you think you blew the water off there will be some spots u missed

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

POR 15 is a fairly picky product in terms of laying it down, so if there was a bit of moisture left, the bubbles don't surprise me.

How concerned you should be with it is probably related to how bad your floor was. If it was solid to begin with and you think even a little coated it, I'd say its fine. POR 15 penetrates the surface, so even thin coverage is still a decent coat. But if your painting right on "seasoned metal" as they call it, then I might go back over it just to be sure.

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

I always use wax and grease remover, or windex. it works great before painting or covering something

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

POR-15 will do that if you spread it too thick or if it puddles in the low spots like that. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

Awesome guys, thanks for the input. My floor was solid to begin with. A little bit of surface rust here and there and that was it. I just figured I should do it while I had the chance. I did start with a heavy duty degreaser, then sand, then the marine clean, then the metal prep. Rinsing with water on the bare steel seemed like a flaw in their paint system to me. But then again POR 15 is supposed to adhere good when directly applied on rust. Hence POR, Paint Over Rust.

Re: Por 15: paint bubbles

I too was wondering this.. But alas, today we used the degreaser Marine Clean and metal ready and are letting it dry overnight... So far, it just looks really clean underneath, no POR15 yet, just clean bare underbody:
