Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

I tried working on my car at 17 and remember it took my teenage attention span 2-3 weeks off and on to change the headlight switch... I wouldn't want to have seen myself attempt pro bodyshop work. Youv'e got a gift.

Admittedly I'm not into the pimp-ish wheels and would gone with smaller black rims (like the ones you posted on page 1, perfect) to match the paint theme, but very nice car and great thread regardless.

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

actually with a good drop and tuck it would look sick, ive never been a fan of huge rims on these cars but there are some people on this forum who have been able to pull it off nicely. i love the color scheme, but yea i would love to see this dropped 2 inches and tucked, you definatly have the ground clearance to do it. and to all the haters you all need to chill.

I too am looking for a new wallpaper, this would do nicely.

I normally consider myself pretty relaxed on the "camaro laws" and accept up to 20" rims looking good on thirdgens. 22's is definitely to big, But your car pulls it off a bit since its so clean, Doesn't look like one of the cars with rims more expensive than the car. Would look a lot better lowered but its not worth more rubbing, have you already took out the fender lining and rolled the fenders? or is it only rubbing toward full lock in the front?

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

the 22s in the back dont look too bad its just the front that kills it and makes it look like its floating

aside from lowering, even as a hater of gigantic hip hop wheels i cant deny this approach looks good:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/whee...s-20-back.html

2-3 inch smaller rims in the front turns the weird floating hydraulics/ghetto look into a really mean hot rod stance and you still get to have big wheels.. swedes car midway down the thread has this 100% mastered but the effect may be even more intense with rear 22s and front.. 19s?

LOL, my thoughts exactly. The car looks good, and I like your choice of rim, but the sizing is terrible. 18s and a drop would've looked great, and the spokes still would've been fat enough to hide the dinky brakes.

Twin_Turbo is absolutely right though, I wouldn't be surprised if your braking performance is 1/3 worse than it was before, and stopping a 3200 lb car with tiny front discs without ABS and even worse, little rear drums, sucks enough with 15x7 rims. Now your safety issue isn't the tires, it's the brakes--seriously.

Your next priority should be a $2000 set of four wheel disc Brembos, to make sure you can slow that rotating mass, and to make it look halfways decent. Personally I would never put wheels that big on, but if I did, I'd make sure I had a brake kit ready to go at the same time the wheels are put on.

Ugly. The craiger looking rims with the Radial T/A's were much better. That thing looks like it belongs in the inner city of Detroit with that painjob and rims. All it's missing is a few (real) bullet holes from a rival drug dealer.

Either a toned down paint job or rims would have saved this car from gangsterdom.

A girl after my own heart, if it was still 2007 lol. It looks great, gonna agree partly with everyone here, 22s look a bit too big, 21's or 20's if they even have IROC replicas in 21's - 20's would look great with it lowered a couple inches. That being said you still did an amazing job, at 17 years old that's talent to make these guys drool over a car if not yourself lol, you have restored a bit of my faith in the youth thanks.

my dad wants to drop it but its gonna need new shocks and alot of work to drop it and make it where it wont rub badly. But i agree it would look so sick dropped and tucked!

yeah well rules are meant to be broken, screw the "camaro laws". I worked my a** off on this car and if i want to put 22 inch rims on it then im going to do it. I definitely have more money invested in the car than in the wheels, (even though those were not cheap) lol. But i havent touched the fender lining, it only rubs when i do full lock turning left. Im pretty sure it has something to do with the shocks. If i replace those i think i wont have any problems at all. anything bigger than 22's and you would have some major rubbing issues though! lol

yeah i loved the way my car looked from the back when i had the cragers because they stuck out a little in the back making the car look mean! Unfortunately i cant get that staggered look with the wheels i have now. And i have read his thread and i love the way his car looks, me and my dad actally talked about doing exactly what he did but i just didnt want to spend the money and then end up not liking it. But whats good about having the 22's on the front as well is that i never scrape my front bumper anymore

That is my next priority, she is not being driven untill shes completely done (having some wiring issues atm). but thank you.

yepp, same here. She likes the good gas But i was the same way when my dad first showed me the camaro. I didnt see the beauty in them untill i actually bought her and actually started working on her. Now i CANT stop looking at her! The body of these cars are just so beautiful! So maybe you should just get her the car and let her make the cosmetic decisions so she can see that these cars arent just guy cars, and with a little work she can make it look like a bada** chick car, and i think she willl have a change of heart.

Hey tdub, I love the end result! The irocs look amazing, maybe a bit big but not near as bad as some are making it out to be. A quick drop should fix that and make it look killer! As for it throwing off your speed, the overall diameter is what makes the difference and since u have low profile tires, I think its fine. Ignore the haters. Your car looks amazing! Congrats!

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

Even if you drop that car, which it sounds like you can't since you already have rubbing issues (that means the rims are the wrong size for the car...), it still will only be at stock thirdgen height.

A shame, that car looked good, now it just looks ghetto.

Well Taylor, if you ever are in Nebraska and you get an itch to work on a 3rd gen, get a hold of me. Mine needs a LOT of work.. hehe.
You can paint it whatever color you want, as long as it turns out as good as yours did, I don't care what color it is.

like anyone with a different opinionm is just a "hater". I feel there is a general, widespread feeling that the car looks bad with those rims. And for good reason!

Let's not forget we've all seen 100+ threads of camaros almost identical to this one minus the paint scheme but driven by guys, Getting unanimous negativity. Whats with the sexism guys lol

The car looks good, was made for the driver's tastes. We may not all like it but chances are many of us wouldn't mind driving around in it.

I said it would look better if it was dropped an inch or two, but looking at it now, I don't think that would be possible, there's not enough room to allow the tires to be tucked in, or is there? Car looks good though, the style of wheel that was chosen is also good, however, I do think they're too big for and F Body...

I know, to each their own. But when you post a build thread you'd better be ready for some criticizm and people who don't like it. And just because you express a viewpont different than the OP's, doesn't make you a "hater".
Those were my main points.

yeah i love how that looks! Thanks! if i had 20's i would probably be willing to drop her. But honestly on 22's thats just asking for lots of work and trouble. Maybe in a few years when im tired of my 22's ill get some smaller wheels and drop her!

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Even if some.. or most, dont like 22's on camaros, i love how she looks!

But im having some MAJOR problems right now with her, and me and my dad, and pretty much everyone at the shop are getting extremely frustrated. This isnt the right thread but ive been doing some research and still dont have a straight answer. It all started when i drove to work like any other day, parked, and when i went to leave work i tried to crank the car and got nothing. Car got towed to the shop, wasnt the battery or starter. I bought a reman computer, still nothing. So we took it to a "specialist"... hah. 4 days and 300$ later he says he got her running. He removed the VATS.. and he says he flashed my computer. So yeah the car started. But i had even more problems, my check engine light came on (wasnt on before i took him the car), when i turned on my headlights my engine temp gauge would stop working, my blinker lights would stay green on the cluster, my battery voltage would jump, and my radio would flicker. But the worst part is that the car was idling at 4000-5000 RPMs. So i very angrily drove my car back to the shop and left her sitting for a week. My dad had someone bring another computer from a 92 camaro, same as mine, we plugged it in and it wouldnt start the car. We plugged back in the computer i had just bought and miraculously my radio starts working and my cluster didnt act funny when i turned on the headlights. Random fix? But she is still idling EXTREMELY HIGH, ill crank her up and just let her sit and she will idle like im pressing on the gas. My dad drove her last night, and she drove fine all the way across town but then on his way back she just shut off. He got a tow back to the shop and she started right back up not even an hour later. I am SO confused and lost. Im getting to the point where im about to rip this motor out of the car and just do an LT1 swap. Any suggestions or opinions?

Hey Taylor, I just read through the entire thread and your car is looking great! It's so awesome that you've put so much work in to it. I'm only 21 and just got my first 3rd gen about 6 months ago. They sure are awesome cars. Sorry to hear about your engine woes, get the code read for the check engine light and it should point you in the direction to some of your problems. But you and your dad might have fun swapping in a V8. Keep us updated on the car!

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

Your car, with you in it, is just too sexy for itself now! Sorry, couldn't resist! As for the high idle, along with the other electrical problems, I would be wondering if the "specialist" flashed the computer correctly. Or maybe its a lot of ground-wire issues (not likely)? I hope you get it all figured out, its a shame to have such a beautiful car not running, and such a beautiful girl walking!

Weird. I had a 90 when I was your age that had a similar set of "mystery issues.". Turned out a wire in the steering column was frayed and messing with the VATS. The fact it just shut off on your dad suggests an ignition wiring issue to me. Could be they didn't get something fully reconnected when they took the VATS out. The high idle could just be the ECM getting acquainted with the car.

Beautiful car. Not my taste, but I think that's what's so great about these cars: You can (reasonably affordably) tailor them to the owners preferences. And they look pretty cool stock, too.

Also, might try swapping the ignition control module itself. If it's failing, it could be cutting power in and out to the car all the time causing issues.

Taylor, it has been my experience that when electrical items are working irractically there is usually a problem with a ground wire somewhere. I did automotive and RV electrical repairs for several years and usually one failing part will not cause all of the crazy stuff that you are having. When there is a ground problem, electricity feeds back through other parts and makes all sorts of weird stuff happen. Check all of your wiring connections, grounds, and such before spending money on computer modules and other costly items. You may find the problem is a simple corroded terminal somewhere.Of course an LT1 swap would be cool, but I don't think it will fix your electrical issues. The 22's would be a bit much for me also, but than I am old, so what do I know... It is your car, you saved it from the wrecking yard, and you might as well have it like you like it. I shown your post to my wife and some female coworkers, and they all think that you are too cool! YOU GO GIRL! Charles

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

I had a similar problem with my IROC. I had to fix the VATs and when I did the car started to do stuff like your talking about.
It turned out there was an anti theft system wired up under the steering column that would shut down the car randomly and then it would work fine later. I ripped it out and connected the stock wires back together and the problem was solved.
Also, check the neutral safety wiring. It's the purple wire that runs to the starter, shifter, relay ect. If that is grounding somewhere it could cause what your experiencing.

Re: Hot pink thirdgen, For the girls!

I had a fusable link go out on my 82' once and it went dead. Just wondering, if maybe your's is just "on the verge.

Anyways, as for the paint, rims, and the entire car? Great work Taylor. It's beautiful, and it's yours. Enjoy, knowing how much work you (and Dad) did to make it what it is. I worked in the body industry for many, many years, and love the work and customizations you've done. I so wish I still had my 85' Iroc. red, 5 speed, t-tops. Out of all the cars I owned, even the 68' convertible black Corvette roadster, the Iroc was my favorite. Just something about the way the car felt, fit, and .............. Just everything. The only thing I'd change in the car, would be to put the Monte Carlo/Celebrity singular headlights in it. For some reason I really like that look. It's the same look Year One Trans Ams took on with the 77 & 78 dual headlight cars. Anyways Taylor, Awesome job. Be proud!!
