Pondered a "different" spoiler idea in traffic today

I'll probably get flamed for this, but on the commute into work i saw a G6 that got me thinking. I know there are plently of spoiler options out there for us, but sometimes I just like to ponder the unusual. Suxs when you have too much time in traffic....

Ok back to the point...This g6 had a spoiler that they call a "hammerhead" spoiler. I searched here and got nada so I figured why not throw it out there. I know its pitched on a slope to sit level on that car, but I wonder how it might fit on a 3rd gen? Our flat deck would pop the backend of the spoiler upwards. If the spoiler is wide enough it looks like the legs just might fit on our deck lid. Might be a subtler version of the mecham, as it would not have legs raising it up.

Sucks I don't have any g6 friends to beg for some measurements.

Anybody played around with this, or know someone with a G6 that might lend some numbers? Better yet take it off and place it on a 3rd gen for some pics?

Re: Pondered a "different" spoiler idea in traffic today

So I saw another one in traffice today... LOL... wow so I'm the only one who pondered this??? Dang I wish I had some PS skills! I had a guy tell me he knows a guy with one... Though you know how the whole friend of a friend things goes. Good luck getting them to meet to do some checking. Might have to take my spare decklid on a field trip to some used car dealers & see how things compare.

Heck if it was like the old days I could test drive a used one home overnight and do a bit of test fitting and then put it back together and take the car back the next day!... HMMMMM....

I have never liked the hammerhead spoiler, but if you like it, run with it.

Wow....That thing would be sitting art a pretty severe angle, on the flat rear deck of a 3rd gen. Be more of an air brake than anything!

If you cut down the feet or extended the bottoms to get them to sit on the same plane as the wing itself, might be a pretty cool wing.

I work at a Pointiac d-ship. We probably got a G6 lying around somewhere. Probably won't have the spoiler. Salesman has a G8 GT. I'll see what it looks like up to my car. Any particular dimension you want checked?

Side note, in the early 90's, I had a 80 T-bird with 82 TA spoiler. Almost painted whole car to look like Bill Elliot's car. Plush velour split bench seats and a spoiler!

See i'm not sure of all the spoilers they had on the G6... I know there was the hammer head and a very very simple one... was there a subtler version of the hammer head that looked more like the mecham?

As far as what I wondered and what dimensions...? I guess the GXP spoiler... see my next post. Blue one indoors w/o the 3rd brake light.
1. the outside width of the stance of the legs... will it fit side to side on our decklid?
2. the width of the overall spoiler.... will it over hang or bee too short?
3. the length of the mounting surface of the legs, esp since they make contact all the wat to the back of the spoiler

With this spoiler sitting with the legs level on our decklids....
The blue GXP one looks a way less severe then the charcoal. I think its the GXP spoiler that will look better... The one on the charcoal car I think WILL be too severe.
Though the sweep on the mecham was pretty severe too, but it was the most functional wing on our cars.

Here are some pics I stole from online..

Re: Pondered a "different" spoiler idea in traffic today

Measured a 4 door which looks like what the second spoiler in the pics is. It's 45 1/4 across the rear most flat top surface of deck lid. Straight line between these points is approx. 2 1/2 inches from rear most part flat part of lid. Didn't check 2 door, salesman had only one on lot. Not much to choose from, mostly used econo boxes. Will check 2 door somehow to points and let you know tomorrow. Got ruler laying in car, just pull up and measure LOL. Salesman know my ride so I can't get to watch them start running. I'll ask around in parts and see if maybe they have one in stock, slim chance but you never know. Quick measurement on my car was 55 inches I believe. Big difference. Last one does hang over, nearly the whole width of the car. I need to measure that too.

I agree with kwikkris, would look good. Mounting may be an issue from below at front. Glass may be close. But there is a way. I'm trying out a different way of mounting those stick on hood scoops. Back in May I put mine on with structual adhesive and the two sided tape, used a new 3M seam sealer and filled in the gap around the scoop. Got it real smooth and no cracks so far like most bonded on panels seem to do.

Re: Pondered a "different" spoiler idea in traffic today

Overall width of G6 2 door and 4 was around 57 58 inches. Wider at the front. Found G8 GT was around same total width. Not bad looking spoiler for third gen IMO. Got a Infiniti G35 believe it was. Supposed to be about the same as 350Z nissan. Spoiler is hammerhead style I guess u could call it. 57 wide at back and 58 at front also. Just rough measure. Totaled the Infiniti, wish I could grab the spoiler before it goes to sale. Also looked like good fit. The angle that it would sit on third gen may look more like second gen style. Either looked like it could be mounted easily. Changing the angle, well I'm sure there are many ways to do that. Hope this helps.

That would be AWESOME... If they let you get a side shot, rear shot, and some showing how the legs and such hit on the deck lid. If it looks good and is semi close to fitting it might be able to be trimmed down!

Excellent! I can't wait!

Sweet! thanks for all the info! Any measurement on the length front to back on the G6 Decklid?

I might just have to give it a whirl if I ever get mine close to roadworthy any time soon!

Re: Pondered a "different" spoiler idea in traffic today

Well i am sorry that i do not have any pictures. Im gonna blame the phone (shoulda charged it last night). Well to describe it the spoiler came about even with the body line. With the spoiler as far back as possible the two legs stuck up the window about 5 inches. the legs are about 8-12 inches in from the sides of the glass. And to what semmed a bigger question the angle was decent perhaps a slight more lippy then a stock wrap around formula spoiler. Really sorry i have no pictures.

Too sum that up i do not believe I have enough skill to make it fit and look right.
