I bought a car back from a guy in july of this year. Never took it to get the title transferred or anything. Also when I bought it I checked the obvious places for the VIN. All looked good except for the trunk since the guy claimed he replaced the whole trunk cause the spoiler was junk. Anywho, I'm all ready to get the car on the road, check it online and says the title is still ACTIVE but there is a STOP on it.

What does this meannnn??

 

did a google on it car may have a lien on it , maybe the guy had an autoshop do repairs on it and never paid them

A PO owes someone $ for some type of service to the VIN#

OR
Could there be a salvage // reclaim title on it & needs inspection b4 it's cleared for road use??

Do an on-line search for your State to find out in a more detail.

To the previous guys, there is no lien what so ever. As stated in the pic. Also the title status says ACTIVE. However, the registration is 3 months lapsed, insurance probably lapsed as well. To my knowledge and what the pic shows, the guy still has the tag I'd assume and to the DMV the guy still hast he car. Obviously, I have the car in my garage, hasn't seen the road since purchased in May, also have the title with his signature, name in print as well as date and purchase amount. I'm thinking the STOP has been put on die to the lapse of registration/insurance.

 

Also want to add the guy had been driving the car up until I bought it.

 

What did they say when you called the number at the top and asked them what it means?

 

I decided to look it up right after the center was closed. Won't know till tomorrow morning. I'm calling as soon as they open.

 

Well guys, called them up and they said the title is a go. The only stop they show is on the previous owner of the car. Which does not prevent me from transferring the title in my name and so on. I am so relieved.
