Front clip swap?????
I have an 85 Z-28 and was looking for a new bumber cover, saw a 78-79 T/A front clip for sale. That got me to thinking will it match?? They look very close to the same dimensions, and that would be nice to have a 78-79 T/A built from a third gen. Just curious if anyone has done it or if it's even possible.
Re: Front clip swap?????
Won't even be close. Body lines would be wa off. Two differnt generations, 70-81 and 82-92. Third gen front sheet metal is basicly a skin over the structure that is the car. Second gen stuff is seperate pieces that attach to the body and subframe.

Have you seen them side by side close up????? They are very close might take a little ingenuity but I think it will work. I was asking if anyone had tried it before.

Re: Front clip swap?????
first i must ask is why the fronts on our cars look very nice the way they are. I am with the post above and i don't think they will line up very well. first off the fenders on a third gen camaro will be to tall i beleive. I think the way the hood on the cars is way different and the shape of the front the doors is probably different.

Re: Front clip swap?????
I knew about the hood, and to answer your first ? I want a 79 T/A very badly, but I can't find one that hasn't been completely run into the ground. And the others are not for sale lol. I just thought it would be kinda cool. I would put the camaro logo back on it, but instead of a 1985 Z-28 it would be a 1985 SS lol, which we all know doesn't exist.

It's possible with a lot of work and or money. Here's a pic of a Nissan 240sx with that exact swap for proof and insperation.

Re: Front clip swap?????
well that pic is 3rd gen fenders/hood with 2nd gen bumper. The rest would be up to you to test fit, but you would have to see if the 2nd gen fenders are the same between 2nd gen firebirds and camaros. If they are, then the firebird front bumper as shown above, would be similar enough to make it work. If 2nd gen firebird fenders are diff than 2nd gen camaro fenders, then you are SOL without trying it out for yourself, because i'm sure out of the millions of these cars, there aren't enough people that have tried what you wanna do that you wouldn't run outta fingers to count.
