Cop Car Spot Light
The theme of my Camaro is an undercover cop car. I don't know why I went with that since I always have problems with cops, but that's the way I went and haven't really stopped. I had been looking for a spot light for it forever and finally found one at the slavage yard. They are usually attached on the doors with a gasket to keep out the rain, but we don't have the pillar on the door so I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on how to attach it. I could drill a hole through the a-pillar and put it there, but I was looking at pictures of 3rd gen Camaro cop cars and they almost look like they used a magnet or something. Any suggestions?
Re: Cop Car Spot Light
Just buy a real police crown vic at a government auction or whatever. Easiest solution ever, buy something with the light already on it.
Some idiot in my area has an auctioned off police car. He was driving like a fool, weaving in and out of traffic, doing like 80, so I got in front of him a few weeks ago and blocked him in at like 60 in a 55. Funniest thing ever. Doesn't have any real police car lights, so he kept flashing his high beams at me, pretending to be a cop.
It was so cute.

By drilling a hole in the A pillar, you are destroying the structural integrity of the windshield pillar. The hole becomes a crumple zone. I wouldn't do it. Plus, I don't believe it's legal to have a working light on the pillar unless you are law enforcement or public service. I don't see the benefit of causing major damage to install a non working light for a visual effect.

Yeah down here in Florida its perfectly legal. That's the kind of what I was thinking about the a-pillar that's why I was looking for another solution. I just wish I could find better pictures of the Camaro cop cars online to see how they did it.
Re: Cop Car Spot Light
Well, you don't really know the law in NJ then, because I used to be an EMT and ran with a Rescue Squad and light bars were allowed. I had a friend that bought an old police cruiser at auction and put a full light bar on the car. It just couldn't be red unless he was the Fire Chief. Volunteers were required to run blue.

You are the one that stated you can't have a lightbar. I simply stated that you could. You never said who could and who couldn't have the lightbar, you just said that "they can have w.e lights that want aside from a light bar obviously. I wasn't referring to police when referencing the light bar either. That's a given. If I owned a fox body Mustang police car replica in NJ, I could have a complete light bar on the car also! Member

ok from now on my post will be set to explain what i mean as if i was talking to children. you can have a light bar on your vehicle as a non emergency personal as long as you do not use it while on the road. because if you do it is considered impersonating an officer holy **** i didnt think i had to spell **** out but i guess i do any as far as going through the pillar i have seen police vehicles with the spot light through the pillar obviously its your call its your car but its been done on real police vehicles

Maybe you should say what you mean. Again, you said they can't have a light bar obviously, but now you're saying that non emergency personnel can have a light bar as long as they don't use it. Glad we finally agree! That's all I was trying to get across. On a message forum, where there are people from all walks of life, you need to be clear on what you say and know the answer before you post.
Retro_USA, you might want to rethink this theme for your car if it's a daily driver. With the amount of crime increasing in this country and the number of crimes done by people impersonating police, you may be a target by the police if they see the car often as a commute vehicle. In Florida, every patrol car that goes thru the auction gets repainted from the tan/black of the State Patrol. Not sure what happens with the county and city cars though.

The main hole is drilled thru the A-Pillar on the third gen B4Cs, along with two small ones that the coverplate screws into. I'll try find a picture tonight of the one I stripped down.
