cool idea? or cheesy?
i'm preparing a new hood to go on my car. the old one has thick lacquer strips that would be a bear to sand off, not to mention hail damage that was filled with laquer filler/primer, and I just don't think it's worth it use it, especially when I have a better condition one, although in the wrong color
I'm not sure if I want to use my fiberglass hood pad. I've never really been nuts about the way those look, and mine has a little damage on it, even though it's only been on one year.
I know i'm going to paint the underside of the hood in the grey paint I got for the rest of the car, but I notice without the hood pad, there's an outline of the louvers/blisters, even on the hood that doesn't use the blisters.
what do you think about the painted blisters look on the bottom side?
cool or cheesy?

I think it looks good, as long as the colours chosen return somewhere on the vehicle.
Do you by any chance have that picture any brighter?
I never had padding on my hood either.

Re: cool idea? or cheesy?
the photo I took was of a red, half sanded hood. I took the color out using photoshop just to give it a grey look because my car is grey.
as far as the colors, the hood will eventually be charcoal grey, clearcoated, and on the opposite side of the hood will be heritage stripes, so the theme continues on both sides of the hood, but since it's an RS I wont have louvers or blisters. Black and grey are the theme of the car though....

Re: cool idea? or cheesy?
I think that would look pretty sweet then, especially with the heritage stripes opposite of the painted underside.
My reason for asking is that I'm at work at the moment and try to figure out how to cut and restore the underhood structure on my car after cutting and welding in the cowl.
It's the first decent under hood picture of the base hood I've seen

I can take another pic for you to show what it looks like now, if that helps

Re: cool idea? or cheesy?
It would help indeed. Since my hood is black underside and top I never got any good pictures of it, and the other hood I have is still wrapped up, and is cut up already so there's not much of the bracing left in the center area.
If it's not too much of a hassle I would really like to see another picture of the underside in a brighter color.

Yep, that's perfect!
Will help me a lot.
I have some pretty crazy ideas at the time.
I still have to see how it all fits but once I start welding/fabricating I'll post a thread on the farication subforums.
thank you.

Re: cool idea? or cheesy?
I think the painted underside with the stripes on top would look great. Have 2 different looks but still the same colors. And it would kinda be like your saying it has Heritage beauty on the outside but under the hood it's a Z28

Re: cool idea? or cheesy?
LOL. it's not a Z28 or an iroc, just a simple little v6 that I've dressed up by polishing some parts. It's cool at a show or a gathering to be able to give somebody something interesting to look at under the hood so they won't bash the car when they see a V6

Of course the nice thing about this idea is if it doesn't turn out to be a winner, I can cover it up with a hood pad
