Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

Basic question. In your opinion (those that have purchased a fiberglass Camaro SS hood), which brand is the best quality and best fit, and who sells them? Also what did you pay for it?

I'm shopping around for one and I don't want one that is going to fit like crap.

I got mine from a memeber here. It is an ascd hood ( i think thats the company that makes it) I am please with it for the most part. It has a high spot on the drivers side but not too bad,( I do not know how to do body work so its still their). I payed 250 if iremeber correctly. If you would like pics I can get em to ya.

edit : here is a thread that might help too.

Bought my last one from Hawks, fit great, the only problem i had was keeping the grill in the scoop. I'll be putting another one on my current project car as soon as I'm done with the interior.

Re: Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

Here's what I've found as far as different brands and what vendors sell them:

Stinger hoods

Vendors:

Ricks Camaro
http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-h...1982-1992.html

American Sports Car Designs

Vendors:

ASCD
https://www.americansportscar.com/pr...s-ram-air-hood

Extreme Dimensions "DuraFlex"

Vendors:

Andy's Auto Sport
http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...r00131941.html

Unknown brand sold by Hawks (anyone know what brand it is?)
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...-92sshood.aspx

I was looking around last night and also found someone that sells an SS hood made by Stinger Fiberglass hoods, can't find the link now though. I don't remember what the vendor was.

So is the general consensus that the ASCD one is the best? Has anyone tried the Extreme Dimensions duraflex hood?

Re: Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

IMO I have not been happy with any after market hood, I ordered a 2 inch cowl (steel) from Goodmark, It needed more bodywork then my stock hood. I fit it on the car and the gap was off, gap was fine with stock hood. I also looked at it on the car and saw 2 or 3 low spots and didnt like how the cowl looked. Maybe I am too picky but if you spend $400 for a hood it should fit right.

Re: Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

No aftermarket hood (especially fiberglass) is going to fit like oem. The best you can expect, is one to fit with minimal work. My current hood is from VFN. It's probably one of the better fitting hoods out there (I've used several of the larger brands). It took very little work to get it to fit, and the imperfections that are still there, aren't very noticeable.

Re: Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

i covered this very topic a few months ago.. and gave which vendor uses what hood..

YoungsFbody sells the ASCD hood, (per their email they sent me)

Hawks says they make their own inhouse...(per the email i received)

ASCD, make their own

anyone using the "Duraflex" hood comes from a totally different maker that i have not got a clear answer on..

Fast377, you're not using an SS hood are you? I checked VFN's site and didn't see one on there.

No, I'm not. They don't have one? I could have sworn they did, as that was my other hood choice. Maybe call and ask? Jeanie is super nice and will answer any questions you have.

Re: Which brand makes the best SS hood, and where do you get it?

I have hawks and it had the same rise on the drivers side like explained with the ascd and I put alot of body work into it to make it nice and smooth inside and out

when i got it it looked like two halfs half *** glued together and 4 years later the two half unglued and flew apart luckly there was no damage to my car it came clean off and flew about 200ft up then landed on the side of the road with a few small scratches

I guess ill be buying a new one soon
