Rear Glass Compatibilty

Can I take the glass section of a rear hatch for a third gen, say a Camaro, and replace it in a hatch for a Firebird. Would this work? They seem similar.

All 82-92 Camaros & Firebirds hatches are interchangeable.

If you're looking at the hatch for the sister car, they will either have the spoiler holes in the wrong places or none at all. Keep that in mind.

I don't know about the Camaro's but my GTA's mounting bolts for the aerospoiler were in the deck lid and not the glass.

the glass is physically the same demensions across the years(verts not included), the rear hatch lid has different holes or no holes depending on application. also the glass had different options for the 3rd brake light and rear defroster.

That's what i meant. Obviously the spoilers aren't bolted to the glass.

Anyways, i can't see why you would try and put the same decklid on different glass. It's more work than it's worth.

Re: Rear Glass Compatibilty

If he wanted to "clean up" the third brake light by moving it inside (91-92), he could find the glass and switch the decklid. One reason to switch the decklid.

Re: Rear Glass Compatibilty

the rear deck lid is only held on to the glass with a few nuts and some adheasive, its not hard to take off at all. welding up and cutting new holes in the existing deck lid, then doing the body work to make sure its all straight. then getting it to match the existing paint sounds like a lot more work to me than switching out the hatch and matching the paint.
