I actually decided I'm probes just gonna get it repainted by a shop right before summer, same colour same stripes.there r smaller flaws u can't see in the pics.I honestly thought I could get it perfect and some parts r,but the whole car isn't.ppl can work on their cars themselves all day on the mechanics part, but I think autobody is something the majority of ppl should consider getting done professionally

Just wet sand it really good and I bet it will look pretty good and save you a ton of money to swap a v8 into it. Have you priced what a professional paint job cost yet?

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
i agree with bad. the paint doesnt look bad, just needs a good wetsand and buff. having it redone by a pro is gonna cost you around 5 grand. theyll have to most likely strip the paint off or most of it, redo any body work you did, then respray. none of that is cheap.

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
I got a quote before I even painted it.2200$ and I also saw a car they painted it looked amazing.it was like a mirror and no peel or flaws anywhere.and I don't think I ever wanna swap a v8 in er.to much money and trouble.and I'd actually prefer them to sandblast it and redo my body work cuz that's wut they're paid to do so I may as well have em do it all over again if I'm already paying that much money

blasting a whole car isnt cheap. that will probably add another $1000 to the bill.

Wuuut?? I thought that was part of the process and included in the estimated price.well how else would a shop remove the paint? Or would they just primer over it? Either way if they don't get it to bare metal that's a poor job and would not be worth 2200$ cuz it'd probes peel eventually

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
They would sand it by hand. If you soda or sand blast you will never get the particles out of all the crevices in the car. Take my advice and Westland and buff that bitch up. A decent paint job will cost alot more than 2200. Ill have around 1500 in supplies easy. Check out my 370 build thread. I sanded my car to bare metal to do it the right way.

Ya I sanded it to metal with a sanding drill which took a while.so I guess they only blast it when they remove all the parts so it's just metal? I guess those r the paint jobs that cost 10k lol and aight I'll head over there in a bit

I'm interested in the materials you're using to ring up such a price. You mention "really expensive 2k primer" in your build thread. What might it be?

Im using 2k Epoxy/Sealer primer. Its $70 a quart and 65 a Quart for the Activator. We are on the 4th quart so far and still need to prime the hood hatch bumper covers and spoiler. You can see how quickly stuff adds up if you want to do a really nice job on it. PLus sand paper, DA, spray gun. It doesnt take long to her 1500$$

Im gonna guess you can see sanding marks because he used a drill with a wheel on it instead of a DA sander.

ahhhhhh that would be why. i used the sanding disc on a drill on my engine bay strut towers cause there was some nasty rust otherwise i thought that was a no no

Nah I just used the drill for removing the old paint.and after the orange was done there was only one spot I wetsanded on the whole car, which in fact is that rear driver fender ur talking bout.I tried polishing it after with megiars polish but it didn't do s h i t.I did it by hand,I think I need a power one

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
using the drill for the old paint would still etch the metal enough that it shows scratch marks unless you filled/sand/ primed and did all that. otherwise theres some serious orange peel like has been said that you need to spend a day or two on and get out of there then do a stage or two of clear

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
Ya theres a good number of marks from the drill and when it was bare metal I smoothed it out.believe me it woulda been even worse, but u can still see it a bit.they r very shallow and u can't see em in my garage but u can in the sun.u absolutely cannot see em in the pics tho.and ya doing another coat of clear wouldn't be a bad idea but I'm thinking if I don't get the whole thing repainted I'll pay 100$ to get a pro detailing shop to polish then wax it

hey sry i hadnt checked back here for a bit.i just measured em for u and both rims r 16 inches.idk bout the width cuz my friend sold them to me off his 70 chevelle.but if i guessed id say they r about 8 inches wide.the front TIRES r 8 inches wide and the rear tires r about 10.5 as for the tire diameter the fronts r 24 inches and the rear r about 25.5 when i get new torque thrust m's in chrome i wanna get 20x10 rims for the front and back, and have both tires 24 inches in diameter and 10 or 10.5 in width

Re: new hugger orange and black stripes paint job 88 firebird
LOVE IT! I love orange and black together, to me the 2 colors just flow so well together. I'm getting ready to pint my car again, should I do a scheme like this or keep it all blacked out like I have it. I love both options lol, WHAT TO CHOOSE?!?

Yea during the winter it got away from me in a slick corner and I hit a fence. Had to replace the bumper, driver fender and hood and I did an engine swap and its recieved a few deep scratches and dents since it's been in the garage. I think I am gonna keep it all black(:

None of the other pictures showed up so I havne't been able to see any of what's been done to the car. You should upload the pictures on here rather than have them hosted somewhere else.
