so its time to replace the weatherstripping on the doors of my car.the question is; who makes ,in your alls opinion ,weatherstripping that is EXACTLY OE. both in design and quality.that go on with no mods at all ,that fit and function as the original ones did? later this summer i will do the t tops, but for now im rebuilding the doors. thanks!

 

Get the original GM stuff. It's still available and will last another 25 years for your car.

 

x2, this past year I was able to piece together the GM weatherstripping in its entirety. It's still around. Modern Day Muscle, Hawks, and GM Parts Direct are a few sources.

 

i purchased my weatherstriping off of ebay i cant remember where i got them from but i can look to see if i saved them in my ebay page didnt cost a whole lot and had no fitment issues i replaced the doors and t tops and hatch and everything fit like a glove my only problem is i cant open my doors from the outside i have to crawl inside the car to get the doors open does anybody know how to fix this thank you for any help

anyways the closest most similar to OEM fit you could possibly find unless some place really is now making some that fit as well or better than OEM, will be actual GM ones, NOS, or possibly Repro's on original GM tooling

 

The GM door weatherstrip is cost prohibitive at a couple of hundred per side. The repros are missing the plastic inserts on the ends. OER had one that they advertised had a metal insert, but I called Classic industries and it has been on backorder since July. I just bought a set off of Rockauto from a company named Fairchild industries. I want to see how they look. They claim to have plastic inserts like the originals. If they don't fit right I may have to go the GM route. I will post up some pics when I get them. Hopefully I get them before my car leaves for the paint shop because I want to do a trial fit to make sure they fit right and all the pins line up.

Did you have any problems with fitting? Does it have plastic by where the screws go and not just rubber?

 

We have all of the available original GM weatherstripping available on our site. As others have said, it's WELL worth spending the extra money on. Even the best aftermarket stuff isn't close to the quality of original GM pieces.

 

Kitt - It does have the plastic - I showed you pics over on NYThirdgen. I would like to tell you how it fits installed, but that won't happen for a bit, after the car gets painted. Why don't you order a set and give it a shot? Rock auto has a good return policy. Send them back if they suck. It's definitely a good alternative to spending 400 on the originals.

 

Oh thats you lol. And denny, i heard gm stuff are good but i did hear negatives to gm stuff too not working.

 

I've never heard anybody have problems with the original GM stuff. Since it's original GM pieces, they should fit just like the originals. We don't carry any aftermarket weatherstrip because we haven't found anything that fits well enough to consider selling. In fact, the last three sets of weatherstrip we sold have went to people who bought aftermarket pieces first and weren't happy with how badly they fit.

 

If you search internet you will see. I can see ttop weatherstripping may be worth it but i cant picture door weatherstripping making a big difference. Also i dont have money to spend $400 on door weatherstrip when im going to want to redo my trunk weatherstrip, and ttop weatherstrip which will be expensive

 

Actually, the biggest complaints we hear from people regarding aftermarket weatherstripping involve the door pieces.

 

it sucks that no one makes pieces that fit..gm is expensive but as ive read well worth it..im gonna try thr rock auto route..they do have a good return policy

 

has anyone bought inner and outer window sweeps from firebirdcentral or camarocentral? any fitment issues or mods needed?

 

the stuff I got from A1auto is the supersoft brand. nice quality stuff, I was expecting to get some knock off brand for the price... I guarantee you will not find a more complete kit anywhere for the money!'
