I am looking to get a set of these because they seem like they are the only ones that have an insert in the molded ends. Has anyone used them? Please post your experiences with it. I haven't heard too many good things about OER weatherstripping, but I do not like the Soffseal and Metro stuff without the insert molded in. I like being able to secure the weatherstrip with a screw.

I know the other alternative is new GM stuff, but at a few hundred a side, it is cost prohibitive. If these aren't an alternative I may have to go for the money.

I bought some softseal ones, and I don't like the ends on them. They just don't look right.

Would like to see some actual pics of them installed if anyone has any.

 

I used soft seal and besides them being very large to close the door the first few times they fit amazing. I do notice the ends are alittle bulky but whos gonna see it when the doors closed.

 

I just got these in today and I wanted to show you guys what they look like. These are Fairchild door weatherstrip and they are sold by Rock auto and JC Whitney. I have never heard of the brand, but they advertise them as having a plastic insert on the ends like the originals so I figured it was worth a shot and I ordered them.

They look good. I tried them on the car and everything seems to line up right. All the plastic pins line up with the proper holes. I couldn't install them because I am not ready to reassemble the car, but I think they will be a good fit.



The ends have plastic molded into them, and feel very sturdy. The screws should hold the weatherstrip on fine.



This part of the weatherstrip is where Metro and Soffseal are very flimsy because its just rubber. This weatherstrip has the plastic insert, so it retains its shape and will hold the screw head.

I think they are a good alternative to the overpriced GM stuff. The GM stuff is a few hundred a side, and these cost 90 bucks for the pair. I will give you an update in a few weeks when I actually install them.

 

Just remember, the "overpriced" GM stuff lasted 20-30 years for a lot of these cars. The cheaper stuff that everyone complains about might have saved a few dollars up front, but is it worth it in the long run with improper fit, hard closing and not-so-long-lasting?

 

My door weatherstrip looks like crap on my 27K mile TTA. My T tops on my Recaro have leaked for years. I am not all that impressed with the GM stuff.

 

So are these the ones from Classic Industries?

 

I bought the ones in the pics from Rock Auto. They are from Fairchild industries. JC Whitney also carries them.

 

i quit trying with OER products,they are rediculous,not up to original specs at all. the quality of their products give away their chinese origin. if you dont mind it not being correct ,then go ahead.

Tony - the ends are molded, but they have no plastic insert. So screws go right through it when you try to fasten it.

 

I just talked to Dan about this because we sell a ton of these things and I've never heard of a complaint about ours.

If you use the 3M adhesive to hold them in place and don't crank down on the screws you should be fine.

how the hell do i intall these.. the old ones are stuck under the top trim.. and i cant get to the inner screw.
