T-tops.

Are t-tops a necessity to you on your third gen? Why or why not?

I ask because i've seen decent deals on non-ttop cars but haven't pursued.
What's your opinion on them?

Re: T-tops.

I like the option for myself, but it isn't a necessity. To me it depends on what you want to do, since a t-top car doesn't have the rigidity to keep from twisting on high HP applications.

However, I love my t-tops and am happy I have the car I do.

Re: T-tops.

These days it seems like any car with T-Tops has rusty floors and stained carpets. If they seal and have stayed sealed for hte last 20 years they're fine, but it seems like a lot of the ones I see have seen better days.

I love that i have a hard top car. No rusty floors. Clean carpets. I got subframe connectors and the car has hardly any flex in it at all. I've seen it rock back and forth on jackstands... a little scary, but the car is definitely not flexing under its own weight.

I love the idea of t-tops though... Just not sure I'd ever buy a T-top car as old as these are getting.

Re: T-tops.

they are a must for me, for me that is one of the best features of the car.
I took care of mine, and have no rust inside the car either.

And I just replaced my seals so I have at least another 25 years.

Re: T-tops.

Here in VT a topless summer car is a must to enjoy our few precious months of summer weather and we don't really need ac. If these cars didn't have ttops or vert options, I wouldn't be driving one outside of a racetrack.

Re: T-tops.

When I first looked at my car I would have passed on buying it if not for the T Tops. It is a good looking car to replace the vette I had that got totalled about a dozen years ago. At the time I was specifically looking for a V6 car too. The truck load of spare parts did not hurt either.

I do like the t-tops. however if i found a hardtop for a good price i would have picked it up. They were/are not a necessity to me.

Re: T-tops.

They are a must for me. I hate verts. To me, their for women or old people (no offense to anyone who has one). T-tops are nice because you can remove them on a nice summer day and they make the car look great.

Re: T-tops.

i've had 3rd gens with and without. You do have to make sure they seal well (not really hard, IMHO) but NO QUESTION that i prefer them with t-tops. ONE CAVEAT!! If you are tall, or have tall passengers, you may want the hard top for the head room. When i got my 1st t-top i clocked my head several times getting in, until i learned to duck more.

Re: T-tops.

They're a must for me. I think the cars look a lot better with them, and they're really the best of both worlds; I love open air cars but hate convertibles because of the added weight, greatly reduced rear visibility, and added maintenance cost (top replacements, motor/electrical problems).

If you notice them leaking and don't do anything about it, then yeah, you will definitely grow to hate them from mildew smells and wet carpet. Set them up right though and they'll provide many miles of happiness.

I like that the hardtop is stronger flex wise doesn't leak at all and the rear hatch is heavy enough i dont need five more feet of glass

Re: T-tops.

I couldn't live without them. Something magical about taking the tops off and cranking the stereo up loud enough where you can't hear the wind noise! In the evening, when it's nice and cool outside, feels awesome to go for a nice cruise with a nice breeze blowing inside your car..looking up and seeing the stars. I usually black out the inside of the tops for privacy.
