How do you ship stuff cheaply?

I have some extra parts that I would like to sell but everyone is that is interested is out of state. When I calculate shipping costs (for a bumpercover) it comes out at like $150 just for shipping. There are guys on here selling and shipping bumpercovers for less than that. So how do you guys ship them so cheaply?

Have you tries USPS? They are generally much cheaper than UPS. For instance, I sold a stock TBI air cleaner, and UPS wanted $50. I went to USPS, and they charged $12 so long as I boxed it already.

Anything oversized is going to be limited and expensive. Plus, you need to find appropriate sized/protective packaging. When it comes to USPS, the more room it will require in the mail truck, the more expensive it will be. UPS stores better accommodate but getting them to package it up adds to your cost. Something like a bumper cover or similarly sized is better off, in my opinion, being sold on your local Craigslist sites.

I got both my fender and bumper cover through Greyhound. I think each was about $50. Both came through without a hitch.

I have had them on craigslist for months but everyone that contacts me is either a scammer or is just a joker (messages you but then never returns an email).

Re: How do you ship stuff cheaply?

I ship a lot of Firebird bumper covers.
First you need a shipping account with UPS or FedEx. List rates are too high, you get a lower rate w an account.
Second, you need boxes Exactly the right size. The bumper covers are right at the size where if the box is slightly too big you go up to the next much more expensive size category. I make my own from boxes I get from a local body shop. Collision repair places always have tons of boxes they received with hoods doors and bumpers in them.
Front bumper boxes are 14x16x66
Rear are 14x14x66 w/ out gfx, 14x16x66 with gfx

Many people sell these bumpers without knowing how expensive they are to ship and end up making nothing. Some sellers just figure it into a higher selling price. Some large sellers have such big shipping discounts they Don't really care, just all goes under shipping expenses.

Pm me if you have any questions.
