C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation

I have a 1988 IROC with Car & Concepts after-market T-Tops installed.

I'm in the process of striping the car to prepare for a respray.

I'd like to remove the C & C T-Top metal frame from the car so I can better prepare the roof panel. It would also be easier so strip and respray the T-Top panel if I can remove it from the car.

The C & C T-Top appears to be riveted into place.

Has anyone seen documentation, hand books, drawings etc on how to install Car and Concepts T-Tops?

IIRC, you will have to take the headliner off to access the rivets that hold the center piece in place. I have a couple of the exploded view diagrams from C&C. I will try to scan and post them on Monday.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
@blacksunshine'91 - thanks for the reply, that would be appreciated.

I have read that the C&C T-Top panel is a single piece, but that doesn't seem right.

Looking at it, there appears to be braces which are fastened to the roof by large rivets, and the centre T-Top piece which is fastened to the braces by small rivets. Is that correct?

I will install my BMR outer sub frame connectors before removing the T-Top in the hope this will stop the car from bowing.

Looks like I need to brace the car, remove the head liner and then drill out a couple of dozen rivets.

Peter, I think that second photo is the one that will help you out the most. I went ahead and uploaded them for the benefit of you and anybody else that might need them now or in the future. There simply isn't a lot of documentation out there for us about C&C that people are willing to share.

@blacksunshine'91 - Beautiful! Thanks very much.

You are right, this documentation is a great resource for people with Cars & Customs T-Tops and putting it up means it should be available for other owners.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
I called Sunroofdoctor and asked them if they could/would provide the entire manual for C&C tops. He referred me to a Fiero website that has the same information. He said they were the same pictures as what they had. Here is the website:

http://fierottop.com/waterleak/

It has a lot more diagrams that might be helpful.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
Don't know if the RPO code was the same for f-bodies as they were for the Fiero, but for the Fiero RPO code for C&C tops was CJB.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
As the C &C T-Tops were after market I suspect there was no RPO code.

Mine is an 88 L98 and I don;t belive T-Tops were a factory option due to body flexing, so looks like a previous owner just paid for C & C T-Tops.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
Here's a link to where I got that RPO code from regarding the Fieros. In the letter, it says to add the RPO to the "plus options" section of the order form. So I don't know if it is an actual GM RPO code or what.

Sweet. There isn't a lot of info around about the C&C tops online. The more info we can post, the better.

Wholly cow. That woodgrain interior is aweful. Thanks for posting them. I wonder if anyone has any type of production numbers for C&C. It seems there aren't a lot of us that have them.

C&C/hurst performace, i believe was bought by Mr Gasket. So maybe they might have some #s available.Ive never seen that sport hatch.

Could be my scanner settings affecting the color. Its an old canon n670u model, but i love.Anyway, I think the camaro wood grain looked better.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
I need to repair some accident damage to the Camaro roof and it will be easier to so if I remove the T-Top panel. Once removed I strip and repaint the T-Top panel.

Here is my plan:

1) drill out the small rivets on the inside of the T-Top gaps. These rivets are on the front and rear of this space and appear to join two vertical strips of metal.

I assume one piece of metal is the actual T-Top, and the other is the cut lip of the roof bent down.

2) Remove the interior roof liner.

3) Drill out the large rivets under the roof liner that appear to go up into the roof bracing panels.

Anyone ever seen a C & C T-Top panel removed, or know what to expect?

I've never seen anyone try. If/when you remove yours, could you take a bunch of photos of the process for us? The more the better.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
Good idea about the photos, I'll do that.

I have some BMR outside sub-frame connectors to install and I'll weld them in first in the hope they will stop the car from flexing when the T-top panel is removed.

Re: C & C T-Tops - Installation Documentation
I'm in the process of obtaining additional scans from C&C's installation manual. But unfortunately I won't get it for a few weeks at the earliest. I'll post them when I get them.
