here's a big 'ol pile of mookey stinks for ya...

well snow storm hit denver area last night, not a bad one but caked snow on the ground. anyway im drivin to school at 7:30 am (still ice) and goin into the parkin lot my car slides into a pole at about 5mph. it busts the front bumper and bends it into the hood area a tiny bit.

assessing the damage i see that i need new bumper mounts and a complete new bumper. the hood has a slight curl in it which can be fixed. car runs normal, no new sounds or anything.

what i need is aproximations on how much its gonna cost me to get it fixed. i know that alot of you are pro's, and usually cant quote unless you see the car, but even prices of new bumpers and labor to put one on would help.
chances are i would just go rip one off a junk car, but i want to see what a reprodutcion would cost me.

I can't really tell ya how much it'll be but it might actually be more than you expect. I got $700 when I popped a deer going about 15 mph. All that did was a tiny bit of damage to the hood and a fist sized dent in the fender. From the looks of it I figured $300 or $400. I was shocked to get as much as I did. If you are lucky you'll find some cheap replacements and have money left over to do more cool stuff to your car!

yeah repairs will beat the crap out of you.. Some chick hit me in the back and shattered my back bumper.. Well I didn't think that it was going to cost $1600.. Seeing I saw the bumper on ebay for like $70.. But anywho looking into it there were tons of mounts and crap that had to be replaced.. and the damn sticker that says RS or Z28 costs like 60 bucks.. so all in all I REALLY would't be shocked for a high price.. not including paint too.. That'll hit ya up pretty good too

It won't be cheap, I just had a new front put on my TA, that was the only damage to the car-the nose was cracked and needed to replace the drivers' side fog lamp and turn signal-I got all new GM parts and with labor and paint it ran me almost $1,300! (And that's the cheapest estimate I got out of six!) I don't know how much price difference there is between the '85 style nose and the '91-'92, but if you could find a used one I'm sure it would be MUCH cheaper!I figure no matter what, it's gonna run you close to a grand.
By the way, sorry to hear about this misfortune, I know exactly how you feel! Good luck with you repairs and hope you get it done quickly!

The cost of labor is the killer cost most of the time if you have it done. It can range from outrageous to plain insane.

my 91 bird just took a hit to the front, cheapest estimate so far was $2100 cdn to replace the skins-fender, front nose, headlight door, I am doing it myself for about $1200. It is always cheaper to do it yourself.

I did something exactly like that once, and it came to about $250. And this was at a first class establishment (their cheap paintjob runs $1500). Don't let those guys freak you out, too much..hehe

It all depends on how much got damaged.. Because the more pieces the more hidden costs... so Do let it scare you some.

$4300,, can you believe that ? (long story & wasn't my fault)

The (cough)"body shop" fixed it for much cheaper, added gfx & GTA wheels.

If you can get used parts,, it's much cheaper

Damn, are camaro'z built different? I hit a pole doing at least 35, in the blur tires still spinning the speedo was pegged, and by bumper and front end are fine. All I lost was a front neon light. Tha pole was about to fall over it was swaying so hard at the top. I wasn't so lucky I flew up and got a broken nose, I think having the t-tops off saved me from a broke neck though.

deadbird- at least you took out one of the enemy. A lady cut in front of my old 86 Camaro and did $2300 damage. I ended up fixing the damage, putting Z28 bumpers & ground fx on it and a cowl hood & painting the whole car for the $2300 because I did a lot of the labor.

i went to Earl Schibe, and the guy quoted me $75 to put on a new bumper if i buy it, (there is an 86 in a boneyard for $150 im gonna get) and he said it woulndt be over $500 to paint the whole car too... so that frikkin sweet seeing as how i thought it would be $500 just to fix the bumper. i figgure it will come out to arround $800 total (hidden damage) but my car will look pretty. and i know earl scheib is just like macco, but i have a friend who got his '89 jimmy color changed to red from black and they did a great job. no orange peel, or waves in the paint at all. sorry i didnt get pics up yet but the dreamcast was callin me and by the time i realized it, it was dark.

All I can say about that painter guy, don't paint your car teal.. some guy did it from bright red to teal and it looked like crap.. under the fenders you could still see all the red and stuff like that.. so definately have him paint it the same color again.

oh god no. only colors i would change it would be to white, diffrent red, black or hugger orange. im just gonna have it a brighter more metallic red. so the doorjams and engine compartment will be a diffrent color but not one thats like night and day. and by brighter its only because it has metal flake. ( its glitter thats made of metal instead of glass, for all the people who are uneducated in paint)

[edit]
oh and earl schibe (i think im spelling it right) is the company name, not just some guy i found in a dumpster. although im sure there are guys in dumpsters that could do a mean paintjob.
and i thought about it, and there are some purples that look good too, but that too far off from my burgandy to do.

well my faith in humanity has been restored!! i now know why people as a whole suck ****. i went to a bone yard that said they have an 86 Trans AM ready to be parted out. look at the "TA" to find it's an 82 firebird. six cylinder and all. we try to tell the guy that he has an 82 not an 86 and he says "Oh so you know it all dont ya!" when you can check the tail lights for the year. (we tried the door jam but it was painted over.) so we told him that we know its an 82, and he yells "Listen sir! its the same thing! they may be a little difftent, but from 82-91 they all bolt on!!"

damn i was ready to deck this guy. he knew nothing about our cars, and yells at me like im an idiot. and as were walking back to my dads truck i hear him yelling at his idiot co-workers "fukin' know it all!" yadda yadda yadda. i forgot the place but ill post his business so people in CO. know to avoid him. damn now i wana go vandlize his place. but i probably wont. maybe some paint ***** all over his shack of an office. damn hicks.

Hey 85ws6ta consider this; more than likely he knew "exactly" what he had in his yard and got p*ssed when an informed consumer came in and he didn't get the chance to f*ck him over like he'd have wanted.
Had you not known what you know, you could be like some of us who read this board twice a day just to get the edge that you already have. Be glad brother, some of us are still struggling to get informed .

yea, and i have gotten most of my edge from this board. i work at a hotel with internet access, so i sit here for about 3hrs a day total just learning about 3rd gens, thier problems and solutions. plus i have a basic knowledge on cars that i have learned from my dad, and from having a project car.

but in any case he seemed like a real dumb azzhole. thats why i would recommend posting any questions, like what years the bumpers changed, etc. so you know and wont get screwed. it happened to me a couple times on my vette. does a $2500 brake job sound right? i think not. thanks, Just Brakes! im still pissed about that seeing as how they dont work properly. (squeaky) and i know the whole new brakes squeak a bit, but after 3-4 months of driving it and driving about 15mph with the brakes on (to carve the pad grooves into the rotor).
oops sorry, seem like when ever i mention getting screwed on my vette i go into too much detail.

86fyerbird, I'll say she's totalled. A buddy of mine hit a deer @ 90 and she's considered totalled. needs a hood, front clip, and right fender. and of course some under hood parts. And the insurance company said it's totalled and gave him $4300. He "bought" it back for free, and the $4300 will fix his car, and up the 350 to a stroked 383.
