Cheap? Clifford alarms were the most expensive alarms on the market a few years ago. They were also the best. The company started to slide a few years ago because they had BIG problems with one of their newer lines, and was acquired and subsequently dismantled by DEI last year. I've got a 900 IQ alarm which was one of the most advanced alarm systems on the market at the time, and also one of the very few that carried a lifetime warranty.

JUST AN FYI

clifford is no longer in business. there was rumors that DEI bought them out but DEI claims that basically if CLIFFORD was a ship and it sank to the bottom(hence out of business) DEI simply picked up all the boxes that were left over.

in basic terms, DEI bought any remaining Clifford stock. but they do not honor any warranties that clifford made.

kinda ****ty but the alarms are great

hope that helps

I think they are real good, the only problem I have with them is they will not let you install it yourself and installing their alarm is harder than any of DEI's alarm.

dei is honering clifford warranties on a case by case situation. most of the time they just give you a rebate to buy a new dei alarm. but they have repaired a few cliffords that i sent back. when dei bought clifford they were not obligated to cover anything.

My dad just bought a '98 Yukon with a clifford alarm in it. I'm not sure of what model it is but it has the 2 remotes that operate the locks, remote start and alarm on/off. It works really well, we've been really satisfied with it.

My brother had a clifford alarm and had nothing but problems with it finally after having back to the electronincs place he got it from and had install it he had them remove it and they gave hime his money back plus an extra $200 for the inconvienece and said that the alarms were cheap pieces of crap.
it was in the place 13-15 times in 3 weeks for the alarm malfunctioning.

Like I said above, some of their newer ones had big problems. That's what drove the company out of business. Their older Intelliguard line is a rock-solid bullet proof line that rivals anything currently available.

I have an Avital Avistart6500 (remote start, top of the line). From my sources Clifford owned Avital and if that's true then Clifford is the best. Saved my car from being stolen, guys broke the steering column and everything. Because of the remote start the VATS had the relay in it. Still got the car even though all the units had been torn out and the avistart was sitting on my front seat. 4 button remote is very nice. I'd probably buy again because of the features and the fact that it's the only reason I still have my car.

Clifford was the BEST allarm you could get, BOTTOM LINE.
The Intelligaurd line had options 5 years ago that the alarms now days still cant match
I have heard that DEI bought the rights to the name, so now is prob crap.
If you were looking for an alarm I would suggest the Code Alarm systems.
here is there site CODE ALARM
