Detent pin lower reciever

working on rebuilding the hinge pins on my 91 so working on the detent pin while i have the hinge off. once i got the roller off of the upper detent pin i notices that the roller has worn on the top surface of the larger lower part of the detent pin and it is no longer flat and has an angle on on side, is it still alright to use the lower pin like this with the replacement pin and roller, or can i grind it back flat or am i going to have to replace the lower pin assembly as well? ive attached a pic though it is a bit crappy, thanks

Re: Detent pin lower reciever

Its your judgment call. The lower assembly is a pain to replace. I would run it as is, or grind smooth removing as little material as possible. The detent roller has a top and bottom side to it, so make sure the metal bushing that pertrudes from it is intalled facing down.

I would replace it. You have went that far, do it all while you have it apart.

Re: Detent pin lower reciever

I never looked very hard to find the lower part.

I got the detent roller and pin from Hawks on ebay for $15 shipped. Best I could find.

I ground off the bottom of the old pin, drove it out of the hinge, drilled the old detent pin out, installed the new one, then tack welded the bottom of the pin back to the hinge. Easiest way I found.
