Door Hinges
My drivers door sags when I open it and it squeeks. I've heard of people replacing the door pins. Is this the same thing as replacing the whole hinge assembly? If it is how much does it cost from GM and can you tell me the part number? Should I do both doors at the same time?

There is absolutely no way I am going to pay $450 to stop my doors from sagging. I'll go to a gm dealer and try and get the part number and a price eventually. Does the pin kit work well?

They sell those pin kits in the HELP section of autozone, pep boys & most all part stores for right around $5.

3gc, untill you get the hinges replaced heres a quick fix to get you by.
Get a deep socket 9/16 or so and place it between the hinge halfs on the bottom hinge while closing the door. Say it's the drivers side, on your knees, up against the rocker, hold the socket like a cigar with your right hand fingers and place the socket between the halves in the middle of the hinge and with your left hand close the door until it holds the socket in place. While holding pressure on the door, stand up and move to the outside of the door and push the door towards the car (shutting but not shut) firmly one shot at a time. Release the door and the socket will fall out and check to see if it's shutting better. While your pushing the door the socket is pushing the bottom hinge back (door side) and the effect of that is raising the back of the door. It's a quick way to bend the hinge to make up for the sag. It very well still make noise but it will close better. It's hard to explain the exact placement of the socket but think about how the hinge sits when it's closed and that the door side bottom needs to go towards the rear. The socket will be horizontal, front to rear (lined up with say the rocker).
I hope this may help you, i could of fixed twenty of them in the time it took to type this. If you don't understand this, stop at a bodyshop and grab a tech and he can show you right where to place the socket.

They are labeled gm, ford, etc. plus (usually) there is a HELP book to look up the right part for your car

Are the pins damaged when the doors are removed? I'm going to paint my Camaro a different color next winter and I'll have to take the doors off. I don't want to fix them now when I'll have to get new ones later anyway. By the way, I don't drive this car. It's a project car.

3gc, Take the fenders off first and the doors unbolt easy. The hinges will stay with the door and you can then replace the pins with the doors off the car. When your ready, just bolt the doors back on. It's always a good idea to scribe the hinges to the cowl so you know were they were from the factory. Scibe hard so you will still be able to see the marks after the cowl has been painted.

the upper hinge kit costs around 80 (if I remember right) it comes with a backing plate to bolt the new hinge to. the bushing kits only help if it's the bushings or pins that are worn. for me it was mainly the upper hinge so I got both kits.
