Ok...seeing as there isnt really a general place i will ask here....i just got my car a few days ago..and i have already fixed the dash (thanks to the help you guys have given me about cheap salvage yard parts)...but ive been looking all over my car and cant find a spare tire...does it go in the deep area in the hatch back spot?...(right behind the big boxy place) or is it in the boxy place or something? thanks for any help locating this thing...pics would be greatly appreciated.

It's in the passanger side quarter panel of the trunk area. Opposite of the locked box. The whole thing lifts up.

Underneath that boxlike area behind the rear seats is the fuel tank. Dont ever drill into that area.

I just checked out your car, I don't know what you mean by nothing special. It looks nearly new. Very Nice

what type of spare tire do you all have? i have a 89 GTA, and the spare tire is unlike any other i have seen. it comes deflated, and upon inflation, the tire circumfrence increases to equal that of the full size tires on the car.
The junkyards only seem to have the convenience spares, but do not have spare tires like mine, which needs to be replaced.
Any ideas/comments?

my spare is one of the deflated ones also...but its never been used and still has a little blue can that apparently blows it up...dont know though..all the junkyards around here have the spares like that in the camaros and firebirds...although they almost never have a can of whatever the stuff is.

The can is an extremely high pressure can of CO2 that can inflate the oddest made spare tire to about 43psi.

That's a space-saver tire. Luckier people got aluminum ones. You can get a brand-new inflator from Classic Industries if you need one, but they are re-fillable if it's still in good shape. (mine has some rust around the base)
I have the space-saver inflator spare too. When I got the car the cannister was gone. I decided to take the tire right out of the car. Between the jack and the tire, who needs to haul around 40# of dead weight? I have AAA+, they'll bring a flatbed if I need it!

Yea the Inflatible tires are for posi cars. They could not fit a pre inflated spare the same size as the 16's so they had them deflated. I work at American Camaro & Firebird, In Oklahoma City. and the inflators are very hard to comeby. and sell for alot of money.

That's not that expensive IMO.
That makes sense zenish.. My Z has one, but my RS doesn't. Glad you broght that up so I can get that right when I install a posi on the RS one day.

i would assume that the fix-a-flat cans would be undesirable because of the gunk they would leave behind inside? considering the spare might only get used once or twice in the life of the car, it may not be a big deal.
i think i'll have to stick with the $10 12v portable air compressor.

The cans are pretty high pressure, had one in my car that i needed to use once, I wouldn't reccomend that you use a fix-a-flat can or even know if it would work. I actually wouldn't recommend fix-a-flat on any tire problems. I used to work in my dad's shop and we would see alot of problems where tires that had fix-a-flat in them would still leak, the best thing would be to get it pluged. Also, besides from being a pain when you take the tire off of the rim, the residue left in them is relatively dangerous.
