Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

Is it illegal to white your sidemarkers? if it is, could you just get amber leds or something to make it ok? I live in texas btw.

Re: Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

Yes, federal law says all that safety stuff must be unmodified and reflect the correct color, not just light. However some places have less enforcement than others and it certainly attracts less attention than headlight or taillight mods. If you have those mods too, you might as well go all the way.

Re: Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

Here is NE ohio the cops don't seem to care or even notice stuff like that. I had the side/bumper markers on my old ZX3 painted white body color and never had in issue with them like that for over 3 years. At night they still glowed amber and I just had a regular 194 bulb in there.

I have the white/clear side markers on mine, with amber LEDs.
Haven't had a problem being pulled over, and I doubt I ever will.

Re: Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

Technically it is illegal. If you put white lenses with amber bulbs in you MIGHT get by & you might not in Texas. Depends on the mood of the cop when he sees them.

This is the best idea, or don't even sand the letters off if you don't want to and Niteshade them. Shaving them is a sweet idea as well. Like I said here in Ohio we get away with alot when it comes to mods.

It is not window tint at all and I would never try it on a window or glass-it's made for plastic. It's lenes tint in a spray can made by VHT. I have been useing it for years and I can make lights look killer with just sparying them-no clear or buffing. Do a search on yahoo for VHT Niteshade. The trick is to do light even coats till you get them as dark as you want. The smaller the lenes the darker it will get with less coats I have noticed. Also it gets a bit darker as it drys so you have to let it sit for a bit between coats.

Re: Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

As said at first, ANY mod to the side markers is technically illegal, but enforcement varies. However, BLUE markers are going to be the most cop attracting possible, I would stay away from that. You will be most likely to get away with whatever color mod you do to the lens if you stay with yellow bulbs.

Re: Legal Question Concerning Sidemarkers

I would stay away from blue ..My dad put a blue light on the back of his big Rig so he can see the airline and pig tail...it was on as he was driving down the high way....Michigan state trooper gave him a $300 ticket. ..even the red KITT light you need to be careful with ....to many people trying to be fake cops..pull people over and rob them...

As fare as night shade I only said its window tent in a can to give an easy explanation on what it is...Back in the early 90's my graand frather past and I was given his Buick wagon ..fake wood grain and all...I had no idea on how to tent windows.....AutoZone sold a window tent in a spray can...tryed it ..I got runs all over came out thin and like it was water down..so I cleaned the side glass ...then used a model car trick and used Krylon black spray paint ...for the side glass only..I would never do it again..I drove it like that for a summer found out the frame was rusted bad ...it got junked sat in the yard for the winter ...I was back in the yard the following spring and all the paint was peeling and flaking off....
I have seen some nice things done with night shade...but its in a spray can ..and you use it to tent ...

Yea APC got into big trouble because they were selling clear light kits for road use that were not DOT approved. There are some clear lens kits that are DOT approved for other vehicles but I haven't seen any for 3rd gens.
