Speedometer Manipulation
Speedometer Manipulation
Is there a way to manipulate an 85-MPH speedo so it will read correctly with a 145-MPH face? I just want to put a 145 (or even a 120) overlay on my 85-MPH speedo so I don't have to go through the hassle of getting certification of the odometer mileage.

I'm sure that if you put a correct resistor in series with the needle acutator, it would work. It's just a matter of doing the right calculations. It would take a lot of tinkering, to boot. Perhaps if you hook a voltmeter in parallel with the connectors at the back of your cluster that are responsible for speed. Then, you can reproduce highway speeds using a power source in your work area. It'd be a ton of work, though...and you can't hook the resistor up right into the main signal, or the odometer wouldn't work...best of luck
