Wrong bulbs from the factory?

All my manuals for my 92 bird say 1057 for the taillights but i went to replace them and ALL of them were 194's. Has anyone had this issue?

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

Do you have reason to believe the bulbs you just replaced are the same bulbs that were installed by the factory?

If so, they would be how old?

Isn't it more likely that a PO is responsible for a part "subsitution?"

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

License light and side markers are 194's. The taillights should be 1157's. IIRC 1057 may be the same thing just the 1157 were more available.

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

I was thinking there was a 1056 and 1156 that were single filiment. I'm probably wrong as it's been years since they have used either. I can't keep up with all the new numbers and bulbs they are comming out with now. And I think I do remember the birds having a couple of 194 style for taillights. Maros have them in the outside portion of the taillights. IIRC Anyhow I do remember something about some 2057s or similar that would cause issues if they weren't used where needed or used where they weren't supposed to be. Feedback into indicators or such.

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

1057s are going to be about 5 times the size of a 194...not exactly interchangeable as they have completely different sockets. I can't speak for my 3rd gen as I've never replaced the taillight bulbs, but my 4th gen has a combination of the newer 1057 equivalents and 194s in the taillights. 194s on that car are for the outer edges of the lights.

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

1056 and 1156 are single element bulbs which are used for the reverse lights. 1057 and 1157 are dual element bulbs which are used for the turn signals, brake lights and parking lights. There is also a 2056 and 2057 bulbs too. Difference between 10, 11, and 20 is brightness. 194 are small bulbs which are usually used for side marker lights, license plate lights, interior lighting and IC. 194 bulbs are also used in the corner of some tail light assemblies. Always use the correct bulbs that is listed in the manual.

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

194 will not fit in the socket the 194s are a push in bulb and the 1157s and 1156s are a screw in type

Re: Wrong bulbs from the factory?

For one taillight assembly, behind the red lenses the two inner bulbs are 194(tail-only), and the two outer bulbs are 2057 from the factory(brake/tail), but you might find 1157s in there if changed previously. The turn signal bulb behind the amber lens is also 2057 from the factory, but you might find an 1157 here too, if changed previously. The reverse bulb is 1156.

Just by looking at the back side you can see that there are 2-3 diff size sockets.
