dent on drivers side door

well. i bought this 88 camaro with a few long dents on the door. most of them are dings that i can just bondo, but there is a lare gone that i can;t seem to handle. i tried going from inside the door, but i cant get in there enough to push it out enough to really make a difference..... i also havent completly taken off the door panel yet. i will be to replace the weather stripping, will i be able to acess the bottom of the door to easily pop out the dent, or should i go hard with bondo and hope and pray it doesnt look like sombodies butt

Pics would help, but depending where its at, you may be able to hit it out a little bit (you do not want to make a high spot), then bondo it, block it, prime it, block it and then if there is any low spots put glaze putty over that to smooth it out completely, prime it and block one more time. and if you did everything correctly it should come out really great

I'm going to do the same on the drivers door on my RS, the key is not to cake the filler on too deep, you can always go over it again if need be. I have seen alot of awesome bondo jobs and alot of bad ones as well-looks like plaster just slapped on there.

Yeah... go easy on the Bondo.

If you build it up too much, it takes on a life of its own.

Re: dent on drivers side door

Also make sure to use a good guide coat on the primer to find any low spots and pin holes! I recommend this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/smm-38203. Use it all the time at work and love it. Make sure when you do your blocking to use a long hard block every time. 80 grit on the bondo, 220 the primer, 180 the putty, 400 the primer. Then get a small flexible block and wetsand with 600. Make sure to use a good urethane primer. I recommend this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/smm-ml010.
For the hard block: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ar...4402/overview/. For the soft block: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mgc-sb-3. For sandpaper, use quality stuff, 3m is all right, but spend a little more and getter better quality sand paper. Any paint/body supplier should have the items I listed. Make sure to get good quality bondo and putty. As far as hammering out the dent, use a small hammer on the inside of the door and hard thick flat piece of metal on the outside to prevent high spots. Good luck!

Like 2007xl50 said, u can bondo, prime it and block (you can do that as many times as you need, just dont over do it), just don't cake it on there the first time (or anytime for that matter, just even, thin coats) and make sure you let everything dry/cure completely before you block it

Re: dent on drivers side door

One more thing is before you bondo make sure to sand all the paint off over the area and then a tad bit past it that you are going to mud so it gets a nice stick, It's ok if out get a tad bit of mud on the surounding paint as it will be sanded off anyways when you level it all out. Remember the key is to not have a transition from the metal to the mud back to the metal.
