Can anyone identify this notchback?

I just bought this notch from a guy in Chicago. It doesn't feel like the "louvers" on the sides were added and I've only seen one other like it on the internet. Had a a metal tag on bottom that says it conforms to all safety blah blah blah made in '83. Been curious and been searching for a week. It's not fiberglass as it is heavy enough to need two people to carry it.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

looks like the hatch off of a contempo firebird or camaro. From what I have seen there were several versions of the hatches on those cars with subtle changes.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Thought it was a contempo at first but the side louver things looked like they went all the way through the side sails. The louvers on mine are just on the outside. The louvers are not glued on or anything, look like it came that way. Nah..not looking to sell, going on my T/A when it gets finished. Looks similar to the Miami Vice notch camaro.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Sorry about triple post but I went and looked at it again and the louvers don't go all the way through and all the comtempo notches seem like, no matter the style, they extend through the sails. I'll post pictures in the pic thread when I get it on my Trans Am.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

On a factory glass hatch, at the top there is 4 holes in the glass for the bolts to hold it to the hinges. ..dose your notch back have the holes ??? Or dose it bolt to the hinges differently...the pic of the white Camaro doesn't look like it has the head of the bolts sticking out....and your pics didn't look like it had any holes atthe top....

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Do you mean with the notch on the car or of the hinges on the notch? I don't have the notch on my car quite yet, it's still in storage from the winter. If you mean the hinges I can run out and take a couple snapshots.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Hmm seems like they hold the bolts in place. Would be kinda dangerous to modify them. I'll take a better look after I get home from work, see if I can think of anything.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

I took a look and mine doesn't have the "buttonns" showing on the top. The notch has 2 layers and the hinges connects to the bottom layer, giving it a clean look. That's a toughie without making it unsafe. Not sure. Have you started a thread for it? I'm sure there are likely far more knowledgeable body guys on here. I have ideas but none of them safe.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

No I haven't ...I've talked about my car in other threads. .but not my own...I just got in to another argument with my so called friend, that's doing the body work...we have been arguing..but not like today...but that's why I asked if you was selling yours...I knew this day was coming. ..I fired him today...and may have to take him to Court ....

Oh damn, sorry to hear that man. Can you paint the buttons to match the rest of it? Won't make them disappear but will hopefully blend a bit

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Factory style from 88 doesn't have them. I can give you the email of the guy where I bought mine. He wanted $600 for factory notch, might be able to be talked down a bit. He collects third gen stuff so he might trade it for some cash and some other hard to find piece.

Keg, is the steel under the fiberglass of your decklid?
I welded the bolts on mine to the steel frame from the OE hatch.

Re: Can anyone identify this notchback?

Thanks redttop....pm me the info...and ill see what he has...I dont have anything that would be considered rare.....its just that I have shaved so much from my car...and to have them 4 buttons on top would be a eyesore.....

And my notch is all fiberglass. ..nothing to weld on...

Right now I work 6days a week...430pm -330am...but this sunday I have off and I will make a build thread...with pics of my unfinished notch back....that I dont think I could do anything with...my so called friend was making it a plug to make a mold from ....
