Where Should I Mount My Tach????
I got an Auto Gage 5" tach with shift lite as a present and this thing is huge. There are basically only about 2 places that I can think of to mount it. One, would be on the left side of the dash, but this would hinder my view a little. The other was, I was think about mounting it under the center heat vents on the dash, but this is kind out of my straight forward sight and I am not sure I will be able to notice the light without taking my eyes off the road. Anyone have any suggestions, advice, or pics?

Dang, 5" is HUGE. I would mount it on the steering column right in front of the old tach. Another option you might consider is returning it and getting a VDO 4" tach. Much smaller and a nice tach.
Just as a side note. TRUST ME>>>> YOU CAN'T AND I REPEAT CAN'T MISS THE SHIFT LIGHT. If it is right in your view it will blind you. It looks funny when I race at night because the whole car lights up. That light will take the eyes right out of your head. I keep the light cover on a lot of the time.

Well, the tach won't fit on the steering column, I tried, I have a GT steering wheel so that might be why it won't fit. I think I am going to mount it under the vents.

I mounted mine here
I mounted it on that pillar so i wouldn't have to drill through my dashboard. It looks good, doesn't create a huge blindspot (although it does make one), and it's right there in my face.
and yeah, that light is bright

DAMN DUDE! that Hood is HUGE!!
I put my 5" Sport-Comp Silver w/light under the A/C vents, its just low enough that you can't see it from outside the car (out of sight, out of mind) but I can still see it pretty well out of the corner of my eye. I'd have to wear welding goggles to miss the shift light though.
You can see a pic of it here:

Here is where I mounted mine.
And like every one else said you wont miss the shift light, mine is just a little light and it is more than bright enough.
