Heater core

Well this has to be the worst thing to change,My heater is leaking from under the right side dash. I had to cap off the lines till I can get in there, now I'm hoping that someone has an idea or trick to getting it out, I'm in the process of replacing the carpet so it's gutted right now! should make it easy'er to get at it? I've got a spare 84 parts car with it still in it, hope it's good. Just wondering if anybody had some info on it before I tear something out I don't need to?

It is a big Pain In The A**! You might want to get your hands on a manual that has pictures in it. It will make it easier.

Do a new core. They are under 50 bucks so why mess with a used one.

I paid $25 for mine with a lifetime warantee. It wasn't that bad of a job. took about 3 hours. Other than the hoses, I was able go get to everything else from under the dash.

After I did my core, I could appreciate why mechanics charge $60 an hour. It's not really hard but just taking every F***ING screw out of the dash and then everything in it and under it.

i'd recommend an $8 flexshaft. Would have saved me a big owwie from punching the fridge later on after i got coolant in my face.

I got a new heater core for $18 with a lifetime warranty at autozone. To make the job a lot easier, take the dashpad and the passenger speaker out and then you can reach the "hidden screw." Use the shop manuals for pictures, but don't believe them when they tell you to take apart the whole dash, steering column, center console, etc. I think there is a tech article somewhere with really good pics also.

What year is your car? On the earlier models, it's very easy to change. In my 82, I took out the pass seat and came in through the bottom and finished the swap in 30 minutes without breaking a sweat or cursing once.
