3rd brake light

I didnt know where to post this, I figured here is as good as a place as any.

I am getting the 4th gen wing, its got a 3rd brake light recessed into it. Is there any way to get the 3rd brake light out of my '86 hatch glass, or whatever, I just think it may look gay with 4 brake lights. Any ideas.

Thanx

I doubt you'd want to do that, that'd leave holes in the glass. what you could do is:

1. fill in the recessed area with fiberglass and sand it smooth or...

2. get a new hatch from an 82-90, transfer your decklid (or better yet find one that didn't have a spoiler so you don't have to fill holes) and wire up the spoilers light.

Okay, here is what I did.
You obviously have to get rid of one; two brake lights looks
very stupid. I chose to keep the one in the wing. The one on
the hatch for '86 comes off and will leave two holes in the
glass. You can just fill them up with black silicone or do what
I did. I went to the junkyard and got the bolts that hold the
hatch on. The are the ones that are round at the top. So
instead of having four I now have six. It looks totally factory
and unless your looking for it u will never even notice. I have
been toying around with the idea of getting a new back hatch
lid. There are some around here with no spoiler holes. That
could make it a little easier than filling with bondo.

Question for u guys?
Will a camaro rear deck lid fit a Trans Am? It sure looks like
the same piece.

NoSaint, dont need a pic of it, but what does that look like from the inside, clean, or out of place. The outside looks sweet. I think I may do that.

Another thing, your car is amazing, everything is done perfect and in really good taste, everything about it looks as if its done good enough to be factory, and your web site tops it all off. Your web site is one of the best personal web sites I have seen, everything is great, good job. and thanx for the help

Thanks for the comps, All thought I would have to admitt that it looks better on the web! I really need a paint job!

The inside doesn't look too bad. I cut the bolt so so its a perfect fit and used a black washers. Never really have to look at it all that much. Black silicone would probally work just as well and be just as neat!

NoSaint, what wiring was involved with changing from the '86 Brake lit to the spoiler one? Looks like you may have hit on a great look for those of us that don't want to change the hatch. Can you post the entire job instructions? Do you think this will work on the '86 Camaros? Thanks

That's great that the hatch's will interchange. There is one of
a Camaro around here that has no spoiler and is in good
shape! I'll have to snag it next time.

Thanks, Blue_Meanie86SC, for that info. I guess that means
that all my spoiler stuff will work for both.

As for the wiring, Let's see........
its been a while. I think I just tapped into the wiring that
comes out of that spring loaded thingy. Pretty simple.

I think i will do up a tech article for my page with more details
soon.
