Interior Repair: Smell Removal
Interior Repair: Smell Removal
I recently came into possession of a 1987 Camaro (forgot the exact model and all that, cars aren't exactly my forte). Along with the car, I got an added bonus: several dead critters (mainly mice) that had made their home inside it during the two years it had been sitting outside, not being driven. As you might guess, the corpses left a nasty scent behind, and I can't seem to rid myself of it. I've tried nuking the seats and carpet with Febreeze and Resolve, but to no avail. I've heard of a machine that pumps ozone into the car and it's supposed to get rid of any unwanted smells, but I was unable to find any detail shops that offer the service. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
holy crap dude, have you ever heard of a test drive. I imagine you will have to get at least a new carpet. That is gross man, catys will go crazy in your car, I would swap the carpet and use one of those dirt devils steamers on the seats. good luck lol

I've used a product called Ozium (I think that's how you spell it), to remove smoky odors from cars before and it worked well. Not sure if it will work on dead animals though. Good luck
if osium dosent work, youl have to get a ozone machine...i work at a used car lot,and we have one..it works great....we got a van that ahh...well,it had a different back seat in it because there was a dead guy on the old seat for a week...i puked when i opened the door cuz it was so nasty....we let the machine do its majic fo rabout a day,and it slepped like ozone instead of dead guylol.
I don't think your going to want to here this, an autobody teacher once told me that the smell of somthing that died, does't come out.If you can get the smell by cleaning it let me know.I think your going to need a hole new interior.
If you get a couple (5) of those insents that you burn and let smoulder it might help.
Just a thought

Re: Interior Repair: Smell Removal
Smells get trapped in fabrics. Two fabric sources in cars, seats and carpet.
Seats I'd replace with 4th gen seats anyway - solves that issue.
Carpet, remove from car, take to car wash, hose it with high pressure hose and soap, rinse, allow to dry for a few days in the sun.
