Please post a 88-92 Glass T top large pin pic..

Hey I was seeing if any of you guys could post a picture of the Large style pins for the Glass T tops for the 88-92 years. Im trying to find a set for my 89. I have the plastic t tops that cracked and wondering if the plastic and glass have the same or different size pins. I keep looking for a glass set but all of them I see for sale have the small pins. Were all the glass t tops small pinned? Or did they make a large pin for the glass t tops for years 88-92?? If you have the correct year glass t top from 88-92 could you post a picture of the pin on here for me so I know what to get.
Thanks

Dude, all you have to do is swap out your top retainers... Drop the A-pillars, remove the B-pillars, and 2 nuts hold each retainer to the body.

Yes, there are large pin glass tops. I had a set that I sold, came from a 91.

So your saying the retainers which hold the t tops in can be swapped out?

This is a small pin style from an 87 Glass t top. And a large pin style from 89 Lexan (plastic) t top. Could someone please post a pic of a large pin Glass T top from a 88-92. I want to see if its identical to the Lexan (plastic) ones

Here is the pin on my 88 iroc with glass ttops. It's the small pin. From my understanding 91-92's didn't come with glass ttops, only lexan. My 91 with lexan ttops has the large pin.

I bought a new 89 with the lexan tops. They soon cracked and I got them replaced under warranty. The replacement tops were glass. The pins were the same.

Some people say they needed to ajust the the t-tops mounts/retainers just a little to close tighter. In my case, i didn't need to, just put the lexan t-tops away and put the "new" glass t-tops in.

I THINK if u go for the small pin t-tops, you'll may need to swap the mounts/retainers OR swap the latches but that may require you to modify the new t-tops to make the large pin fit.. . not 100% sure about that. Must confirm with an expert first.

What do you mean they didn't have glass tops in '91-2? Maybe for Camaros they only had lexan, but they had mirrored glass tops for the Firebirds. I don't have a pix of mine, but the large pins in the pictures above is what they basically look like.

I believe I already posted your "proof" as I already said that I had a mirrored glass set. Which I sold last year to pay for my 88. They came from a junkyard 91 down the road from me, and the VIN is on the receipt. Maybe there was a difference between whether the Birds got glass and the Camaros got Lexan, who knows other than someone who worked for GM at the time.

As for swapping the retainers, drop the A pillars and remove the B pillars. There is one screw for the weatherstripping on the front retainers, but other than that, it's 2 10mm nuts per retainer. And then you can leave the small pin retainers on even if you get the large pin tops again because the "large pins" are actually spring loaded plastic covers over the pins...

Re: Please post a 88-92 Glass T top large pin pic..

Early in 89 GM changed form the metal only pin style to the pin with the spring loaded plastic one to help with easier installation and locate it all in place much easier .. there's a tech bulleting issued about this.

Body side mounts are the same but needs, as mentioned, to be repositioned.

Ok... So if the're spring loaded now the question is did they make different size retainers for the pins or were the retainers all the same size? Anyone got different part #'s for the retainers?? Maybe the retainers are all the same size and I just have to adjust them to fit better.

Re: Please post a 88-92 Glass T top large pin pic..

I know this is a old thread and I am not trying to hijack but I need help and advice on a t top swap. I currently have lexan large pin t tops in my car. I have a set of glass t tops that are small pin style that even with adjustment will not fit correctly. Are all of the t top retainers the same size or did they make a small retainer & a large retainer. If so where can i find some. Or am I just over thinking things and there is a way to make my small pin glass t tops fit where my large pin lexan t tops go with only adjustment and no modifications and no parts changing?

The retainers are different. They take a matter of minutes to swap out. Get the correct retainers and your fine. Or you can swap the pin assembly from the old tops to the new and use the existing retainers. Your choice.
