Idea: Naca ducting to cool front brakes

here's the scoop, I'm thinking of getting a small set of NACA ducts laid into the front fender when the car is painted in spring. it would be below the body crease, and color matched so it didn't stick out. I autoX the car and drive at the limits of the brakes sometimes...

Has anyone done this? any advice? Tips? yeas or Nays?

I believe the 91-92 Firebirds with the ground effects had ducts infront of each front wheel to direct air towards the vented disc brakes. They were located underneath the body right infront of each wheel. please correct me if I'm wrong.

91-92 Camaros with ground effects had those in front of the front and rear wheels, and they were fully functional...

Actually they aren't functional, they are purely cosmetic. The only thing they route air to is the front of the tires.

I have a 91 Firebird with gfx, but as far as I can tell, any ducting that may be integrated is non-functional. It seems that it could be made functional though . . .

I've seen pics of someone that used (ducting) hose and attached the one end for the intake of air behind the lower air dam (the one that gets bent and misshaped but speed bumps) with some holes cut into it. Then fed the hose over to the brakes. I hope that makes sense to everyone. It's something that I've thought about doing myself, just haven't got around to it.

What happens if you hit the air dam though with that setup? won't it knock the tubes off or bend then?

I doubt it. The ducts are rivetted to the airdam and the tubes are flexible, but still securely fastened to the duct. There shouldn't be any problems. I've also seen people use fourth-gen exhaust tips as ducts. They were placed at each side of the airdam. This might work better for you if you are concerned you would damage the ducting in the airdam.

When I moved my radiator and had to remake my airdam, I incorporated some scoops. For me they run up into the engine bay, but you could run than to the brakes just as easily. I just used cheapo home depot ducts and scoops..maybe someday I'll redo it better.

Behind where the ducts are on the blue SS, there seems to be PLENTY of room on my 1986 Z, I'd say this is pretty much foolproof.
