Just bought a 92 Camaro with body damage, need help...

Hey,

I just bought this 1992 Camaro with only 76,000 miles for 1000 bucks. The only problem is it was in a wreck about 2 weeks ago and took some damage to the front end. The car still drives perfect, even the front end alignment held up perfect. My question
to you guys is, how hard will this be to fix? I just took the bumper off and there are a few pieces bent and the radiator took MINOR damage. Here are some pictures, please let me know what you think. I had one guy quote me 2300 dollars to do it but I wanted to do it myself. Is it fixable?

HOLY SH**!!!!!!!!! Dude my parents just bought me a 92 RS over the summer that was hit in the same exact spot as yours....lol The hit on mine isn't as bad though, the hit on mine only requires a new hood, fender, headlight assembly, and bumper, the frame is perfect and the radiator support needs to be bent a back a lil, but thats it. When they got the car it came with a parts car, so i have all the parts i need. Good luck with it!!!!!

You may be able to get some of the body panels for less and save some money. I just got a hood delivered to my door for $206.00 from www.autobodypartsonline.com check them out. Also, my son did the front of his Honda Prelude with parts off e-bay. GOOD LUCK!!

Go to a junk yard. You should be able to get most of the parts you need.Possibly in the same color. From the pictures you sent. I feel certain that you could do the job yourself.I bought a stock '86 IROC which was hit on the left side.It buried the upper door hinge into the cowl pretty bad. I am doing it myself. It is not turnig out to bad!
Go for it dude!

Do you think my frame is bent? That is what I am concerned about. If it is bent, I can't get the fenders and bumper on, can I?

Frame? what frame? Last time I looked you can't take the body off a 3rd gen and still have a rolling chassis The unibody might be out of wack.. Check the door gaps and any other body gap/seams. Check the whole front area for any spots were dirt or paint has flaked off or has cracks in caked on dirt/road grime. Those might be trouble spots cause the body has moved.

I fixed mine and it was just about the same! junk yard fender and metal bumper $60, Screws, washers, lock washers, drill bits, flexible bondo, reg. bondo, fiberglass, bolts, patience and bandaids came to about $ 200.
My hood was bent so I took it off and had my daughter stand on the low part while I pressed on the high, took 4 trys to get the"hump" out!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

pretty jacked up...but you got a steal for that much money with a fairly easy repair job ahead of you.

The fiberglass Fascia (groundeffects) look to be reusable, the front fiberglass panel with the emblem is easily repairable with merely fiberglass resin if necessary ($10 bucks)

Im the type of guy if im gonna replace something, im gonna upgrade it. Replace that hood with a fiberglass one if you wish (250-550 bones)
the quarterpanel is a pretty 200 give or take whether its new or salvaged.

The front bumber may need some repair or adhesion to the rest of it or maybe a couple of bolts...that air-to-radiator hole needs to be squared out, can be done yourself.

my suggestion:
replace hood-300
replace quarterpanel-180
replace bumper-30
light assbly lft and rt-150
new lenses-20 a pop=80
perhaps a bit of wiring harness-100 +/-
miscellaneous (lenses, bulbs, all that unforeseen mumbojumbo that always comes up)
----------------------------200

this comes to about 1100...thats what you should expect if you did it yourself...and minimized the headache of repairing the panel and hood by replacing them.

but know this..the pride you will get from doing this yourself....priceless

##doesnt begin to consider primer and paint job....just to straighten it all out##
