Be prepared to pull most of, if not the entire dashboard in order to replace the heater core.
A metric socket set with torx bits and some screwdrivers is all you need.
Oh yeah, you will probably need new hoses and clamps.

I just changed mine and it took me less than an hour. The only parts that I had to remove were the bottom cover of the dash and the cover that goes over where the heater core is located. I also had to drop the computer down out of the way. I used a magnetic screwdriver with a quarter inch adapter in the end of it, a flexible 1\4 inch extension and the proper size socket(I don't remember what size). The hardest screw to get to is the one on top of the cover that hides the heater core. If you reach on top of the cover you should be able to feel the screw and be able to guide the socket onto it.
Hope yours goes as well as mine did. Have fun.

Why couldn't Chevy have taken a lesson from Ford on this one? The 84 T-Bird/Cougar had a plate on the firewall. Unbolt the plate and pull the core. None of this "yank the entire interior out" crap! Or was it a plate in back of the glove box? I don't quite remember which, but I do remember it was just a plate. Been awhile since I looked at the Chiltons. What was REALLY a p.i.t.a was that I had an 84 Marquis, same engine as the T-Bird (v-6, anyway) and had to pull the dash!
