90-92 GTA bumper question

Does anybody know if Firebird GTA ground effect under the bumper itself is part of actual bumper or that piece is separate and bolt on? (I have circled it in red color on the attached pic)

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

On 91-92, the gfx is part of the bumper. Therefore, different front bumper cover for gfx and non gfx cars. There is also a fender part behind the bumper cover, but it's different from 85-90 cars.

Thanks for reply. Here is the actual picture of my car (91 TA GTA). You can see it does not have gfx under the bumper, so this is not original bumper or somebody cut it off, right?

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

The first car has ground effects along the body, so it has ground effects built into the bumper cover as well. The second picture is too dark to see fir sure, but it looks like it does not have ground effects so the bumper cover doesn't have ground effects either.

Also:
You sure yours is a Gta? Doesn't look like it has gfx or vented hood or wraparound rear wing.

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

tsev, please post your VIN so I can run it through compnine.com to check and see if your car is a real GTA.

Looking at the photo of your car, you are missing the GTA wheels, rear spoiler, front bumper, and fender ground effects. The side mirrors look to be aftermarket, and it appears that your car has the front bumper and possibly fenders from either a Formula, or a non-W68 aero package base model Firebird.

It appears that tsev isn't in America since his car has export mirrors and an elongated license plate holder...

You are right, I am in Europe but it doesn't make any difference as the bumpers for Europe and US market are the same.

Ran already VIN number trough and it appears to be GTA with WS6 performance suspnesion. I will post VIN number here once again as soon as I get back.

I know that rear spoiler and wheels have been taken off by the previous owner, dont know the reason. Side mirrors are original for export market.

The bumper seems to be GTA but does not have lip. Does this mean that GTA bumpers could originally be ordered with and without fgx when new?

Here are more pics of the car, what about hood, is it GTA?

Your car has the correct hood and all GTAs came with ground effects. Does your car have fog lamps? I can't really tell from your photos. The hood is correct.

Doesn't look like it has, here are better pics. This bumper looks like GTA bumper but it does not have ground effect. How is it possible, maybe somebody cut it off?

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

No, they didn't cut it off, they just used the non gfx nose because that's all they could find. It's even difficult to find those here.

Is gfx the only difference between the two bumpers (gfx and non gfx)? If it is and if I dont find one I could make it myself maybe on this bumper...

What about fenders, as you can see on the pic I also dont have gfx under both front fenders. Is fender gfx also part of fender just like bumper or it is separate piece that can be bought and attached?

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

I've never seen that front fascia without the ground effects lip. I was always under the impression that the Formula and the base Firebird without the ground effects package got this fascia with the black grills and without fog lamps:

Apparently there were 3 styles of the '91 - '92 front fascias made.

These are the fender ground effect pieces you would need IF you had the correct front fascia:

Exactly, I also tought that formula and base models had the bumper you posted above in the pic while this bumper came only with GTA and only with gfx, thats why i tought somebody cut it off..

Yes, I am replacing this bumper with the correct one that has gfx.. I dont have to replace fenders, I just get the fender effects and mount it, right?

Wow, good point. I just assumed the mirrors were aftermarket, or maybe he hunted down a pair of super early '87 GTA or export mirrors. That also explains the taillights.

Interestingly enough, there are no RPO's for export shown on compnine, and it even shows the D81 aero spoiler. I guess it was converted for export before it was shipped out.

I went to dealer where they gave me original list of equipment for this car according to VIN. It has originally export option (I don't think anybody would want to convert it to euro over here as those mirrors suck by the look). It also originally came with the correct spoiler but previous owner took it off because he likes the look of this one more. I have it, just waiting for it to be installed.. Car was also originally in black color and I will return it into that color as well.

Can you please give me complete list from compnine? Thanks

Re: 90-92 GTA bumper question

Correction, export RPO is present now that I'm looking at it again. The code for it is "EXP". I'm using to seeing the Z49 export code for Corvettes, so I didn't know what I was looking for.
