89 Formula Stripe Question
So I've done some searching and I think I know the answer to my first question, but it want to confirm. My Formula is red like the car in the attached picture (maybe this is someone on the forums car) without the stripe along the bottom. I think the stripe really sets the car off and I would like to add one to my car. My questions are:
- Is the silver painted on or a decal?
- If painted, anybody know the paint code?
- Anybody know the width of the silver and the black stripes all the way around?

Re: 89 Formula Stripe Question
The Silver is painted on, the stripe decal covers up the paint line.
the WA number should be 9021 IIRC the RPO would be 13L

Re: 89 Formula Stripe Question
The picture you gave actually does not look correct... In 1989 there should be a gradient silver stripe a red stripe and then silver painted bottom (from top to bottom)
That is if I remember correctly.

Re: 89 Formula Stripe Question
I have an 88 Formula with the same paint scheme. I agree it really sets the car off nice. It breaks up the look of the car just enough, kind of like in the animal world where they are white or a lighter color underneath (I think its called counter shading).
When I got it repainted I tried to find the decals and couldn't. So I had the guy painting the car paint them on. The size of the stripes are not exactly the same as stock but they are close. Don't know the paint codes though. First picture is the before and the next two are obviously after.

Re: 89 Formula Stripe Question
The picture you have there (The Hard Red/Silver/Black Line) was for 1987 & 1988,
Here were the possibilities AS per the IPC in 1986 & 1987, not sure which is for what year.
Yellow, Black, Gold
Orange, Black, Silver
Yellow Gold, Black
Blue, Silver, Gunmetal
Orange, Silver, Black
Yellow, Gunmetal met, Black
1988
Blue, Silver Gunmetal
Yellow, Silver Black
Orange, Silver, Black
in 1989 & 1990, they went to a stripe that was similar to (not the same) as the earlier Trans Am, it had a gradient to it where it faded into the lower color
Red, Gunmetal, Black
Red, Gunmetal, Silver (on a Silver lower car)
The pictures for both of those cars are 87 or 88 Formulas...
Also when painting, do not paint the lower deflector pieces for 1989 like in the pictures above, starting in 1989, the lower deflector pieces were all Black, not painted like 87 & 88
