Battery Tray Hold Down

My 89 Formula is missing the hold down block. I picked one up at the parts store and it appears to be the correct one. My problem is that the bolt that came with it appears to be to large for the hole in the tray.

Having never seen one actually in the car, I'm struggling a little with how it is supposed to bolt in. The bolt that came with the block has a washer and a nut. Assuming the bolt would fit the whole in the tray, does the nut go underneath the tray? That would be hard to get to. Is the whole in the tray supposed to be threaded?

I've searched for about an hour trying to find some info or a diagram. I have a GM shop manual and it doesn't have a diagrahm.

Any help would be appreciated with what seems to be a simple problem.

Chris

Same here.
Bolt is long enough but the thread is too big to do any good.
Tomorrow Im going to look thru some bolts

( edit )
Mine has a nut welded to the tray.

Re: Battery Tray Hold Down

The tray is threaded for the bolt. The bolt looks to have an odd pitch with a pointed end (probably to help line it up).
It would be a real pain trying to attach something with a nut on the other side. If you happen by a junk yard you could probably get the pair (block & bolt) for free or a nominal cost. Very common out there.

Re: Battery Tray Hold Down

Thanks Scorpner. There is actually 2 bolts that came with the hold down that I bought. The one I was talking about actually fits another whole in the middle of the tray. The other bolt sounds like the one you describe, but is to small for the hole.

I will hit the junk yard today and see what I can find.

Re: Battery Tray Hold Down

Picked up 2 at the junkyard today. They are different bolt lengths. The shorter bolt worked best.
