Don't know what topic section this would fall under, so I just picked this one. This was mine. Best Christmas present EVER when I was 13 years old. You can still find them online if you want to pay $80 or so for it.

BTW, I still have this car in a box in the attic. I want to restore it, but have been having trouble finding all the pieces among all the boxes. I still have most of the box it came in too.

KITT was the only thirdgen model I built as a kid. Being as my dad has a 67 Vette he bought long before I was born, I was always more into Corvette models as a kid. Yes, he still has it, but it's sat for 20+ years and needs a full restoration.

I did an 83-ish Corvette kit that was one of my favorites too, it was orange. That's long gone now though. Probably among the bags of "trash" my mom used to drag out of my room every year or so.

I don't really have a favorite. Most 3rd Gen F-Body models are pretty poor with respect to scale, detail and correctness; like manual transmissions with automatic consoles. Also, they just don't look right.
But I do have a couple of these stashed away someplace.

Incorrect perimeter VC's for '87 but it does have the correct Goodyear tires. Contrary to the box art the models are hardtops.

I bought this off eBay for 2 bucks shipping was like $5. Has not been built. Thought it was cool and wanted to see how it was modified for racing. Besides the wheel flares, front air foil, headers, racing seat, roll cage, and 4X2 barrel throttle body injection (or whatever it is). The rest looks stock.
Any way, its fun to look at.

I would love to see/hear from the original builders of small kits. It is amazing how they have given us so much detail .

I only did one model. Didn't turn out as nice as I didn't have the correct supplies but it was a Yellow '91 350 TPI Formula

If anyone knows where to get kits for these, I'd be all over it.
Specifically trying to find a t top 87 T/A.
Can't find die cast models or anything.

I've looked, and you're right, they are hard to find. It might help to know the item numbers. Hobby shops might be able to find them more easily if they know what kit specifically you need. Here are two sets you might keep an eye out for.
Monogram kit #2743, 1/24 GTA kit.....no t top, but if you wanted it badly enough you get the tops out of another set and customize it.

Re: What was your favorite thirdgen model kit as a kid?

That's one that I want. And also I just did a Search on ebay. "Revelle Trans Am" And a bunch of 2nd or 4th gens popped up like ithe smokey and the bandit editions.

For Camaro only about 3 thirdgens came up. They're a hot item I guess.
