Seam question.

I'm been slowly but surely redoing the seam sealer on my car, but I'm having a problem narrowing down a current problem. I have a leak on my driver side kicker panel when it rains and it is leaving a small puddle of water on my floor and a leak there next to all those hot wires is obviously not a good thing. So would this be the cowl? Because since I've redone the wiring I can see a seam on the actual kicker panel (or whatever the metal piece behind panel is) up close to the firewall but I'm not sure where this is and if it's the problem.

Re: Seam question.

It's either the cowl or windshield. You can see the back of the kick panel if you take the fender off.

That's what I thought. I've noticed the vin number fogging up some days so idk if that would lead me to believe windshield.. But I have a brand new windshield with that black glue crap so I don't see how that would be possible

Re: Seam question.

the upper corners of the cowl are originally sealed with some sort of putty. after awhile it dries out creating a leak.this was where mine was leaking .maybe have a look at yours too?

Re: Seam question.

You can use a foaming glass cleaner to check for leaks. Spray it around the windshield, then take a blow gun on the inside of the car and start blowing air around the perimeter of the glass. If there's a leak, you'll see a chunk of foam blow off the car. That will at least tell you if the glass needs to be resealed.
Not sure on our third gens, but newer cars, the A-pillar is a "wet area" and the water is meant to drain out through the rockers. In your quest to seal seams, you didn't seal the rockers, did you?

Re: Seam question.

Water is not meant to drain from our a pillars. They are sealed at the bottom. In fact this often causes our a pillars to rot when water gets in from the roof.

By upper corners do you mean by the driver side windshield wiper? If so I know exactly where it is leaking cause I knocked off that putty one day

Re: Seam question.

After tearing the fender and kicker panel off yesterday I believe water was running down onto the seam between the wheel well and the firewall. Redid and painted and I'm going to test it today to see what it does.
