I can't identify what my car is. Help please.

Hey I have a 89 Camaro with a 5.0 TBI and 91 side ground effects with rs on them. (I bought it like that and the guy said it was a RS) and I knew that the weren't the right ones because the door wasn't flush with the ground effect. So I got the VIN from the driver door and under the windshield and my title and they're all the same. So I got that Vin and search up what it says my car is and it says everywhere my car is a Irok-z. It says my car is supposed to have rear disc brakes and I don't. I have drumbs in the rear and disc in the front. And I have the rs rims. And I have the rs hood, rear lights and seats. And my dash doesn't say Irok-z or z28 or rs. It just says Camaro. Can you guys please tell me what's going on. What is my car? Thank you.

What are the first 8 digits of the Vin? That will tell you what it is supposed to be. It is highly likely that someone that owned the car before you had another camaro and swapped some parts around. It is not uncommon for some people to "Frankenstein" these cars together.

Oh, another thing, look for a little rectangular sticker, either in the console or in the door jamb. It will have a bunch of 3 digit codes. Those are your RPO, or regular production order, codes. That will tell you just about everything that the car came with. (Options, engine choice, paint color, transmission, type of traction, etc) For example, L98 is the TPI 350 engine, WS6 is the firebird code for the preformance suspension option...etc etc.

This is what is supposed to be in the car based on the vin. Specific options can be decoded by looking up the RPO codes.

Likely, your car had some fuggery done with the body. The previous owner probably preferred the 91/92 gfx and slapped them on regardless of the alignment of them. He may or may not have had another car that he was going to make a iroc clone out of (maybe with the 5.7l TPI) and just swapped the cosmetics around. Based on the vin, you have an iroc with a 305 TBI engine.

Awesome but why do I have drum brakes are in the rear and rs hood and tail lights and rims? Was my car rebuilt? (The hood has alignment problems)

That's a good possibility. Either that, or the previous owner preferred the RS stuff- don't know why!

The VIN Does Not Show What Brakes Came On The Car,You Need The RPO Codes For That.

Re: I can't identify what my car is. Help please.

Some website VIN searches will say IROCZ and some will say "BASE". I am pretty certain that the VIN doesn't guarantee its an IROCZ. only VIN plus the RPO codes are good for that. As to the rear drums. I have an 89 IROCZ (verified) and it has drums in rear, not disc. Another tail sign is if the headlight indentions are painted black (though this can be faked or covered with a repaint only IROC-Z's came with black paint from factory per what I read here somewhere).

The title on mine explicitly states it is a RS. Even though I have a front bumper cover that has Iroc-Z printed on it.

The rpo code to look for to be sure is Z28. In 89 that is the only RPO that designated an IROC. Since the engine is a TBI unit, it could have been an rs. The Vin is a good look up if it has a tpi engine. So if he finds the RPO code Z28, it's an iroc, if not, it's an rs.

According To The VIN,This Vehicle Came With The EFI (LO3) Engine Not The TPI (LB9) Engine.
