87 trans am "extensions"
I'm restoring my 87 firebird, when I took it apprt for paint I found my fender, quarter, and rocker extension retainers a just about shot, Ive been t trying to find new retainers, but th He y are obsolete through gm and no one sells just a retainer, hs anyone gone through this.does anyone have any leads to where I can get just the retainer

You can try this place,I've had some good luck with them in the past.It would be a nice idea to get a Parts And Illustration Catalog to get the P/Ns from it.

those items you're referring to have been discontinued. Every now and then someone will be selling an NOS one on ebay but in all honestly your best bet is a junkyard.

If there what I think they are,I had a couple of bad ones, (studs missing)had them reweld the studs back on.

Easy to make them. I picked up a 3' length of 1" aluminum at the hardare store and cut it to the length needed. Then held it against the fender and checked the shape. I had to clamp it in my vice and give it a bit of a twist to sit nicely. Then marked the holes, drilled and tapped for M6 bolts and put some bolts through it with loctite. then it works just like the stock one, slip it on inside the fender and use nuts and washers behind the GFX.
Mine was on a Camaro, but it can't be that much different.

Built my own, can't remember the ga of steel I used, but I simply drilled holes in it in the proper location, put a bolt through each hole, tacked them in there and ground the heads off. Worked just great.
