door scratch

Hi,
I have a few small scratch down to paint (black) in the driver door (all the sctaches are close to each other). I tried the touch up paint, scratch kits, etc., but i am not happy with the outcome. I am thinking in trying to use the small spray gun to fix. Is there any information, video, or instruction in how to go about doing this?
Any information appreciated!!

Re: door scratch

It would be very very hard to blend, especially on black, without redoing the entire panel. How deep is the scratch? Have you tried wet sanding and polishing?

Re: door scratch

I tried wet sanding and polishing but I am not sure if I am doing correctly. I tried doing by just sanding and polishing only the scratched area but it seems that the area gets bigger as scratch the surrounding color. It not deep but I have taken down the color to "grey".

Re: door scratch

Ah, well if the scratch is down to the grey then it's all the way through the paint and into the primer. Your best bet would be to go with touch up paint and polish it out, or get the panel repainted.

Re: door scratch

Do you have any recommendations in how to keep a blob of paint to firm? Avoid caffeine? Hahaha!

Re: door scratch

Unfortunately if you need to repaint it, you must paint the entire panel. You can't paint just one spot.

As for keeping the blob firm, you just gotta let it dry completely, like, over 24 hours.

As for painting the entire panel, There are a lot of painting threads already in the appearance section, they'll have information from people who've done it and done so successfully.
