Daily driver/durability= undercoating
show car/weekend ride= paint..to match car..or black satin.
Or..if you can get car on lift for a day, wire brush as much as possible, mask certain parts off..and undercoat..can use the aerosol cans from 3m ...helps with looks, sound, durability, and cleanliness.

I say Undercoat but ger an Undercoat that tries fairly hard so you can scrub it. The flexible stuff is not easy to clean. Paint would chip to easily. Epoxy paint might hold up for the longest between respray.

I'm in the same boat, I need to get the bottom side painted so I can start installing parts back on. Under coating seems to be the best option for durability.

What's the best stuff to use?

Get rubberized undercoating from dupli color I think. It comes out darker then most undercoatings which come out kinda grayish.

My local body supply has several different shades and textures of undercoat. I went with the smooth finish satin black on our show truck.

Re: wheel well, black paint or undercoating?

Keep in mind that Scott's car is a Van Nuys car, Norwood might be different. My 87 Norwood car had a lot more undercoating on it than that, and my car was yellow...

Re: wheel well, black paint or undercoating?

I still have more to go since the car had the beeswax undercoating (Rusty Jones) applied when new. One issue I have now is that the parts that have been protected for 20+ years looked fantastic when first cleaned, but now have light surface rust on the unpainted undercarriage components. Last week I saw some pics of a low mile 91/92 that had been taken care of by the previous owner with WD40. The undercarriage looked like new with no rust at all. I don't think I'll be getting under the car any time soon for that much detail.
